When I was at GIT in '88 Steve Lynch from Autograph used to tell us funny stories about Yngwie and his... um... cravings.....

Was that the guy with the steel wool hair-do?

That's him. You used to talk about Yngwie calling him in the middle of the night looking for certain substances. I think he actually introduced Yngwie to Ritchie Blackmore for the first time too when Yngwie was in the hospital for the car wreck.

Interesting..another true story that Yngwie used to call Alan Holdsworth in the middle of the night and wake him up for God knows what reasons, and Alan told me that he used to get back at him by calling him during his sleeping hours and play obscure music on his answering machine so that he wouldn't recognize who it was until they met at a NAMM show and Alan spilled the beans.

84 or 85. Queensryche opening up for Iron Maiden at Radio City Music Hall in NYC.

YJM opening for Triumph at the Brendan Byrne Arena was incredible even if he did play a few bars of a ripping version eruption and do an exagerated yawn after it...

There are more but thats whats coming to me now...

A friend of mine told me he saw Yngwie open for Triumph years ago and he said to me more than once that Yngwie's set was one of the loudest bands he has ever heard. He recalled Yngwie's guitar was sooo loud in the mix that his ears ran for 4 days. And i remember once Keel opened up for somebody, forgot who, and for some reason they were turned up louder than God.

I was right against the front wall at Monsters Of Rock in 88 at Giants Stadium and my ears ran for about a week. I remember everyone around us giving Kingdom Come the finger for their whole set and everyone yelling "Metallica" and "Led Zep" at them. I think me and my friend were the only 2 getting into Dokken since they came on right after Metallica. I remember thinking right then and there that the LA style hair rock was in serious trouble. Everyone just stood around recovering from Metallica's set. But i was into Lynch even though it was soo loud i couldn't deipher his guitar sounds in the mix.

A guy I work with went to that show in Cape Cod Colleseum, and still talks about it! He says that Van Halen came on, played their show, and the whole crowd looked around like "WTF was that????" They blew Sabbath off the stage (in my friend's words).
Im pretty sure that the show that Isaw was the first night that they did with sabbath becasue Ozzy Came out and said "Holy Sh$t!!! that guy is amazing!!!! I knew that I had to play guitar after that.... and yes, they Blew Sabbath's doors off in the worst way

Put it this way, that Yngwie show fucked my ears up so bad that I couldn't really enjoy nor hear normal the week following concert which as DLR ( eat em and smile tour) and I think Cinderalla opened if i recall...i was kinda scary actually.

Dude I own that Monsters of Rock Giants Stadium bootleg on VHS ! I need to go dig that up.

WOW! VH in the 70's, that must have been epic! If i were too pick the loudest memorable show it would have to be YJM trilogy tour at the California Theatre in San Diego. The guitar solo was the longest and most notes I ever heard at ear-splitting volume! I actually thought I had damaged my ears cause I was earing that "mmmmmmmmmm" going on for two days straight! Don Barzini was with me as well!
Yeah Bro, like I said before, it was about as magical as you could get.... Im pretty sure that my ears were ringing after that YJM show as well... I saw him in a small venue in NY called the rio thater when he was with alcatrazz and I was right in front of him in front of the stage and it was like I stood in front of a jet engine all night. If there was ever a show that I thought I did some serious hearing damage, it was that one( there was also the night that I saw the Vinnie Vincent invasion and that guy was ridiculously loud and had more Ice picky treble than anyone should ever be allowed..

Zeppelin, yes, Jethro Tull, Kansas Trower, Marino, you name it, I saw them... Ive always enjoyed live music becasue to me, its the true test of a musician/group; you either bring it or you dont...

I saw VH at the Califfornia World Music Festival (Not sure why they put two f's in there...) in 1979. That was the night that Steve Henning's ego got crushed. Apparently James Hetfield was there too.

I didn't play guitar at the time and left the show wanting to be DLR. Shortly thereafter I realized that if I were to sing in public, people would die.
LMAO!!! I wanted to be DLR as well but it had nothing to do with singing

Yup that show at the Cali World Music Festival at the LA Coliseum really changed my life. I thought I was a pretty badass axe slinger 'casue I could play all the Aerosmith songs and I was actually there to see Aerosmith. Then VH comes on, my jaw dropped, it stayed that way for the whole amazing show and it was clear that I needed to completely rethink how good I thought I was on guitar. Much woodshedding followed...
