Bro, I gotten bitten by the Live music bug early on, my first concert was Black sabbath in central park in 72 when I was like 10 yrs old... after that, I went to every show that I could( Older cousins took me EVERYWHERE!!!) Zeppelin, yes, Jethro Tull, Kansas Trower, Marino, you name it, I saw them... Ive always enjoyed live music becasue to me, its the true test of a musician/group; you either bring it or you dont...
Cool!
A friend of mine is about your age and I love hearing his stories about when he first heard Eddie Van Halen play...everybody just freaked by the sounds of it.

Yup that show at the Cali World Music Festival at the LA Coliseum really changed my life. I thought I was a pretty badass axe slinger 'casue I could play all the Aerosmith songs and I was actually there to see Aerosmith. Then VH comes on, my jaw dropped, it stayed that way for the whole amazing show and it was clear that I needed to completely rethink how good I thought I was on guitar. Much woodshedding followed...

Steve

We've talked about this before, but I was there for Aerosmith too. They were my favorite band at the time, until that night. Even if Aerosmith came out and absolutely ruled they would have had a tough time getting my mind off VH, but when they came out sucking it was all over. VH took the #1 position.

Bob, when I saw them in 84( both nights at MSG, Loudness and Autograph opening( Both of them were pretty incredible as well !!!)) There were so many hot girls around me that were just drooling over DLR. These girls ranked along side the most amazing Porn Stars and Centerfold/strippers that I have ever seen and they were ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!!

Anyway, I was slightly stage left, 2nd row, basically between DLR and Eddie and anytime DLR came over, These girls went into a frenzy!!! The things that they were shouting out just about made me blush.

One girl said something to the effect that shed shoot her parents to bone him, another said shed shoot that girl to bone him and basically every girl around me was shouting out at Dave how much they wanted to bone him and how well they would do it.

Of course, that was followed by shirts lifted by them all and bare boobies flying in every direction that went on all damn night(Im not complaining mind you). All I could think about was at that point in time, who could claim that they had it better than DLR? Seriously, The look on the guys face was one of total satisfaction; "Top of the world Ma!!" Towrads the end of the show, There were at least 10 girls grabbed from the audience by roadies and escorted backstage so I guess that they got their wish...

VH truly Laid waste(among other things!!) when they were on top...

No doubt about it, Roth is a one of a kind. Not even Robert Plant could lay claim to what Roth had in his prime. Heck, despite all the smack that gets talked about him these days, I'll bet Roth still lays claim to some serious stuff...

DAmn.....I saw mindcrime in Chicago and that was an epic performance.

Saw Cheap Trick in 86 in this dive 500 head clud and the boys ripped, dark stage and all you see is Bun E Carlos running up the ramp with the cherry of his smoke and going into Gonna Raise Hell :rock:

Saw the monsters of Rock in Foxborough, freaking Lynch was on that day as well.

October 1979 Van Halen at the Los Angeles Forum. Their first headlibn tour and my first concert.

The Who same venue January of 1980. First tour after Keith Moon passed away.. they rocked for about 3 hours or more.. Great seats. it was awesome.

Rush Moving Pictures Tour again at the LA Forum

Outdoor Festivals.
The US Festival 1983.. QR, Crue, Priest, Ozzy, Triumph, Scorps and VH

Summer Strut... Maiden (#otB tour), Scorps(blackout tour), then sadly Loverboy and Foreigner. Awesome food fight at Anaheim stadium.

Good call!
Old Cheap Trick is awesome.

Alice Cooper has a radio show on here every weeknight, he plays the old Cheap Trick all the time...must be his favorite band. :rock:

Ozzy Osbourne - First real rock concert, ( no where near the best show I have ever seen) Speak of the Devil tour with Vandenberg.. pre Bark At the Moon era Jake..he played all the sabbath and RHoads stuff great...Ozzy had a shaved head!!!

David Lee Roth - Eat Em and Smile with Tesla - Dave tore it up! I never saw Classic VH ( I did see Van Haygar and they sucked) so this was a good as it got for me. Vai Sheehan and Bissonette were an incredible band!

Tie -
Dio - Last In Line and Maiden Powerslave - being in Jr. High this was the cream of the crop. As for Dio , Viv Campbell was at his best and Dokken opened ( under Lock and Key Era).

Maiden had there biggest stage show, a hot album and were a hot band..every kid loved them. Accept opened up..Metal!

Yes, there are far too many shows to remember. I forgot about the three hour 25 year anniversary Cheap Trick performance I saw in their home town, Rockford, IL. They made a CD and DVD of that show as well.

I saw that song on DVD, great freaking show!!!!!!

Man Cheap Trick are just awesome.

Yeah, I guess it dates me. I also went to a concert that featured the big Southern Rock bands when they were in their prime:

Skynard
Black Oak Arkansas
38 Special
Thats a lot of long-Bearded southern comfort guzzling dudes on that list! what about Molly Hatchet! :lol: :LOL:
Ya know, I completly forgot about Molly Hatchet...I can't remember if they were included on that bill or not. I assume they where 'cause it was supposed to be the top guns of the time.

I do remember that the Allman Brothers were not included...I wish I had had a chance to see them when Dickey Betts and Dwayne Allman were in the lineup. :cry:

REM at the New Haven Agora Ballroom during the Reconstruction tour right before they got huge......laugh all you want but they freaking blew the joint up and were uber hungry.

I almost forgot and I hate to admit it 'cause I'm not a fan, however, the Stones "Bridges to Babylon" tour '97-98 was an awesome concert. I was given tickets by a friend and so what the heck I went thinking it would be a sucky concert but a cool night out with friends. Man, was I wrong. I was taken totally by surprise by the Stones. Those guys really put on a fantastic show...go figure. :confused: :rock: :confused:

Van Halen ruled the rock music world in 1984 no doubt.
It was larger than life when they came on with Unchained!
I have never experienced anything like that since!

Yup - I went both days. It was cool because between bands you could go over to the Sports Arena and watch old concert videos and get outta the sun. I watched a pretty cool Clapton documentary where they showed a lot of Cream concert footage...

Look at the bands on that list other than the headliners too:

UFO
Mahogany Rush (Frank!)
REO
April Wine

Killer!

I bought a program from that show on eBay a couple of years ago and the sponsors were funny... A record store called "Licorice Pizza"... HA! Kids today would not get what the hell that even meant... never mind why you'd have to go to a store to buy music...

Steve

Rush Nassau Coliseum- Spirit of Radio Tour- my alltime favorite live band did Cygnus 2112 F,ing amazing.
DLR w/Vai- Nassau Coliseum- Eat'em & Smile- Vai did VH covers and played better than Eddie IMHO;
Maiden opening for Priest @ MSG; Priest was on Screaming for Vengeance Tour IIRC. Halford on the Harley.
Detailed memories are obscured by various factors.
:lol: :LOL:

Yngwie Malmsteen Oddessy, was a good show for me. Above that, Queensryche Operation Mindcrime

Monsters of Rock (VH, Scorpions, Dokken, Metallica, Kingdom Come)
VH = 1984
VH = LWAN
Whitesnake/Motley Crue
Dio = w/Vivian
Ratt/Bon Jovi
