I saw the Ratt/Billy Squier tour....Ratt kicked ass, although I dug Squier...he's a unique dude.

WASP opening up for KISS was cool...KISS kinda blew, but Eric Carr's drum solo was amazing....real shame about that guy.

I saw Bon Jovi open for the Scorpions (Blackout tour)...no one had heard of Bon Jovi, and they kicked ass....they are a great live band, just wish they'd get back to metal and boot that bloated Sambora out of the band.

As far as worst shows, Van Halen's 5150 tour kinda sucked...Sammy was cool, but the bass solo/Jack Daniels chug = ghey, Alex's drum solo blew, Eddie just made whale noises during his solo....kinda bummed me out. Bachman Turner Overdrive opened up. :D

Yeah the JD solo could have been passed up and we were yelling Bachman Turner Overweight

I dont get the hate for the 5150 / Van Hagar shows though............I think this vid kicks freaking ass!!!!

#1 Whitesnake.

The tour with Vanderburg and Vai, the sound quality was aweful and there was more posing going on than at a Victoria Secret fashion show, just aweful.

#2 Whitesnake again.

The tour with Vivian and Vandenburg. Terrible sound quality again. I could see Vivians fingers moving but couldn't hear a thing he was playing.

#3

Soundgarden. Probably the worst sounding show i have ever been to. And the club, the Armoury in NYC, was about 120 degrees inside. Cornell sounded like he had sandpaper in his mouth and cotton in his throat.

And most boring thing ever was when i saw the GnR, Deep Purple, Aerosmith show in 1990. During Aerosmith's set the drummer took what seemed like a 30 minute drum solo and he had these wireless drum sticks. He left his drum kit and walked around the stage smacking his wireless drum sticks on everything, i wanted to take him out with a sniper rifle.

Funniest thing was a DRUNK Ace Frehley. He stopped the show for 10 minutes so he could tell black jokes, but he had to keep reminding the crowd that he wasn't racist! Yeah, whatever you say Ace.

wow,

Ratt pretty much universally suck as a live band...

I knew I wasnt the only one that recognized this..

LOL! Very cool stories in this thread too! Anybody see White Lion during the 80s? Was Bratta good at live gigs?

Yes, i saw them open for Ozzy. They got Booed at really bad and didn't go over well, and this is was at The Meadowlands NJ and they were from NYC. Someone threw an M80 onstage and at one point the entire PA system shut down for 80% of one song. It was interesting to hear just stage volume in such a big arena, i was halfway back and could barely hear them without the PA. Most of the crowd was chanting "Ozzy" through most of White Lions set.

I liked White Lion and Bratta's playing but they pretty much sucked live IMHO, and the other 12,000 people at that show thought the same thing. They had NO stage energy at all before the technical issues and their overall gay songs don't exactly get a crowd going. It was also the first time i ever saw Zakk Wylde with Ozzy, and Zakk really made Vito look bad that night. Zakk was all over the stage and his playing was full of energy back then. This was probably 88 or 89.

There was a group called Starfighter that opened up for Ozzy at the Cow Palace in San Francisco for the first show of Diary Of A Madman tour....my first concert. That was the most rabid, ferocious crowd I have ever witnessed. Poor Starfighter.....they got destroyed. The crowd broke the barricade and it took an extra half hour to get Ozzy on.

That's interesting. How about Megadeth in the 80s? Could they put up a good show with their drug usage?

I saw Mega open for Alice Cooper on the Peace Sells Tour and they ruled. :worship:

I've probably seen Megadeth about 10 times through the years. I'm not a huge fan, they just always seem to be on the bill of a show I go to. I saw them this year with Black Sabbath, and that is the FIRST time I have ever heard them sound good. Usually the mix and guitar sounds are just unintelligible - everything used to be as loud as possible which resulted in everything sounding like crap. Sounded pretty good this year, not sure if it's the sobriety or they just got lucky.

They opened for the show in Toledo as well...funny I don't remember much about them

I saw that same tour....the Scorp's had a bad night. Klaus kept twirling the mic / mic cord then throwing it in the air trying to catch it...he killed about 5 mics. Then Jabs was coming down from the upper ramp above the drum kit and tripped on a cymbal stand and fell about 10 feet straight down (with his gtr of course). He hit the ground and two roadies had to carry him off..he didnt come back out for a couple songs.... :)

Bon Jovi did kick ass though....

Was that with Jeff Young on gtr? I saw them open for Cooper too....they were good.

I saw White Lion open for Ozzy...

I remember them being a totally thin sounding live band..Vito's playing was decent, Mike Tramp was unbearable and the crowd was more interested in getting a beer than watching them..

one of those bands that sold a few albums but no one really cared about them live I think..

the same tour Vixen opened up as well and might have sound ballsier than White Lion..lots of boos for both bands...

Zakk came out and was just on fire...totally anihillating Bratta...

Danyeo was correct...alot of those acts sold albums to chicks but just had no energy live..so many of the top guitarists bands were complete snoozefests...other than that it was complete "cotton candy"

oh BTW...... RATT was amazing in 84 and 85.. They blew chunks live from 86 on IMHO.
Bro, Wasnt there a RATT, TNT and Loudness Concert that we both went to way back that was pretty good? IIRC They were all Great but Tony Harnell pissed me off because he was consistently flat live...

Kage

I remember seeing White Lion , Ace Frehely and Y&T also on a triple bill...

as you would expect Meneketti came out and slayed Bratta and Frehley

as far as most of those vapid hair bands...

Extreme could totally deliver the goods..they really put on a great show

Frehley's Comet..............bar none the WORST large arena show I had ever witnessed. They opened for Iron Maiden during the 7th Son tour.........just god awful bad.

SOMEWHERRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IN THE NIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw that tour .... in Worcester Mass ..

He did the old " wires attached to my LP that has the smoking flashing pickups floating away at the end of my solo " trick

Iron Maiden were so LOud and trebly I had a migraine 40 minutes in and split ... first time I left a show early

1.) Great White/Dokken...George had that Rockman crap tone going on and he was obviously pissed at Don. The singer from Great White was sweaty, stinky lush walking out around the crowd prancing around like a fag. Remember Barzini?

2.) Twisted Sister/Iron Maiden - Although Iron Maiden sounded fine, Twister sister was just god aweful. Terrible overall sound too, All I heard was that Galloping mid-range bass from Steve Harris cutting through the mix and drowing every one out.

3.) Motley Crue/Loudness - I was only there to see Loudness and they tore Motley Crue a new ass. Vince Neil sounded like garbage and Mick Mars...well nuff said there.

Ratt did suck live too!! Warren carried that band.
