Yeah if I was playing that stuff I wouldn’t actually care that much myself either.

I’m also not autistic enough to tell somebody in a social setting that their tone has digital artifacts- but I am enough to be thinking about it the whole time.

Kohle actually knows what he’s doing. He also has the body of work to prove it. I’m subscribed to his site, and he goes through things in such detail you actually understand how things work in the mixing and mastering world. Not just a run down of someone else’s mix showing you all the plugins they’re using on a project, without mentioning any of the outboard gear or anything else used. That’s cool and all, but unless you understand how that shit works you’ll just get shitty mixes.

That's me . The band technically was good and getting paid stupid money , though not my cup of tea. I was listening to marginal tone watching chicks in hiked up dresses dance while I was eating my 20 bacon wrapped shrimp . Not too bad really !!!!

Now back to the basement for tube amp glory !!

Ya no doubt. Kirk Windstein of Crowbar used them for about a year, but then he went back to his old 1980's Randall rg100es heads. So what does that tell you? They had better sounding solid state amps in the 80's, Randall and Ampeg in particular. Not only were they better sounding, but they were built way better then too.

Glenn is not capable of coming up with any production or mix to the standard of Sneap, Richardson, Lewis, Bogren, Date, or anyone else. They all use a variety of gear and get different tones on different projects. He can try and use gear he thinks they use, or not, but it doesn't mean he produces work that sound anywhere close to guys on that level. When I say production, I don't just mean the engineering aspect, but also the overall quality of the songs and artist. As much as I don't really care for his tones, they are absolutely not the biggest thing holding him back. The fact that he doesn't take any responsibility for the quality of the band or songs, and instead decides to blame everyone and everything else is what does it. Perhaps if he could play guitar better, he'd be able to help guide his clients through making their guitars sound better. Its no coincidence that many producers just happen to be killer guitarists. The gear Glenn is or isn't using isn't whats holding him back - its the shitty attitude, stubbornness and contempt towards musicians (as in, the people who are paying him).

He uses a particular reverb based on what some other engineers also use, and yet Glenn has some of the worst sounding drum reverb I've ever heard - the gear has no real bearing on it, its what he is choosing to make it sound like, and ultimately his taste that decides.

You take that back right now! I’ll have you know that Glenn re-mixed a song on Geoff Tate’s version of Queensryche that was mixed so poorly the label had no choice but to farm the songs out to other producers/engineers to have it mixed properly and Glen Fucking Fricker saved the day for everyone. Now all 4 people who bought that album can hear it in the full quality it deserves!

And he’s such a cool guy, he did it for free, not because the label just didn’t pay him!
 
Apologies if I ranted about this already in this thread, but the biggest reason I think Glenn’s an asshole isn’t because of his schtick or clickbait titles, that only adds to it-

I fell asleep one night with the TV on and woke up to a livestream of him critiquing his member’s mixes, the dude was straight up insulting them and giving them no legit input on how to improve their mixes. “Well, you should learn how to sing before you start recording”, “Get real drums“, “Fake drum bullshit, learn how to mic a snare!”, “This might be something of value if, I don’t know, you could actually play what you’re trying to play”

I don’t know if that falls under his schtick or not and it’s like a ‘thing’ to get insulted by him, like it’s part of the reason people pay money to have their mixes critiqued, but it was really fucking off-putting to me. It’s an unfortunate fact that there are younger people out there who look up to him and I can just imagine some 15-year old kid who busted his ass on recording a song on his own, getting crushed because his YouTube guy just made fun of his abilities when he was trying to get legit input on something.

While on one hand, it’s probably a GOOD thing that they’re turned off from a YouTuber like Fricker early on, I think it’s straight bullshit that you’ve got to be a member of his YouTube channel and pay for him to talk shit about you.

I didn’t hear that fuckhead provide a single bit of useful information, just him insulting people or saying “Actually, this isn’t bad…” and then moving on. Maybe I’m out of touch with his channel, I dunno, but the only thing running through my head was “This guy is a fucking asshole.” A 15 year old kid isn’t going to have access to a killer drum kit to record, the interface to get the mics into their computer or in some cases, not even a fucking computer. And if they’re sounding amateurish, it’s because they’re kids (which is apparent by the clips) and ARE amateurs, absolutely no reason to talk shit about their abilities as musicians.
 
I saw 1 video by this asshole a while back, I couldnt click off it fast enough. He was retarded and annoying, clickbait, bullshit. If I ever see his name mentioned again I am going to start widespread rumors that he is a communist to fuck his life up.

Did you watch the video? It's not some poignant thought piece on the march of time and technology and how the fuel that powers all out favorite gear might be in danger of being replaced by something else. He doesn't really present any facts or statistics about tube amps or tube production or tube usage trends these days, or anything like that at all.

He's literally just using a video with a clickbaity title to shill a solid state amp made by Orange. There's nothing else to the video. It is 100% a commercial for that specific amp, nothing else.

Anyway, if you want to talk about the scientific process here, Glenn is the one making the "claim" that tube amps are going obsolete with his clickbait title, so the burden of proof would be on him to support that claim, which he doesn't even mention in the video, because that's not what the video is about. So, because he offers literally zero evidence to support his big claim, we need to provide zero evidence to refute it. All that's left after that is to talk about what a chode he is.
