"US shock jock Tucker Carlson"

How do you take a news piece that starts off like that seriously?

The interview was a nothing burger. The questions weren't interesting and Putin and his handlers are too out of touch to successfully manipulate the interview either way for a PR win. I think 90% of people that started watching it turned it off for being boring, rambling and filled with poor talking points instead of capitalizing on the opportunity to actually say what's going on, which is all Putin really needed to do.

I appreciated it. Fell asleep for a portion halfway through, but he clearly reiterated the recent history with the US and Ukraine from his perspective anyways, and I found it compelling. He comes across as very intelligent, sober, straightforward and measured. What did you think were “talking points”? …Can anyone imagine a US President giving what amounts to a half hour college level US history lesson on TV ? ? I agree it would have been better to make his points more brief and concise. But I think it could be cultural, in that Russians apparently value historical context and nuance, while Americans need 30 second sound bites.

I remember when TC was at NBC he aspired to be a brite witty humorous "college prep" type character.
Then he goes to Faux Knews and morphs into the "dark side conspirosy theorist".
Make up yer mind yo.
He should grow some titz dye his har blonde and give Meegahn Keelee a run fer her monae'.
Now he interviews serial killers to be relevant and still fails.

I don't know what to think of Putin. On one hand, he's more intelligent than most of the world leaders combined, but the 45 minute history lessen leads me to believe he's SRM (stark raving mad.)

Keep in mind, he's an intelligence agent, more so than a president. But at least the guy is willing to talk. Biden don't talk. He's just a piece of shit talking head, that has ZERO interest in peace talks. Putin, to me, sounds semi-reasonable, enough so to want to at least talk.

He's an old skool trained KGB agent stuck in the past and very isolated & quite mental. Kills just to kill.
Everything you don't want a world leader with the top 3 Nuclear Arsenal.
Doesn't work & play well with others.
Still trying to put the USSR over the top in a world and by methods that don't exist anymore.

To me the history lesson of the region puts the conflict into perspective a little. I was not aware of the ethnic history of the region, including the hunnish population. I think that the rooskies are overly paranoid about trying to control the invasion gaps. Who the fuck is going to invade or want to invade russia? Which is why they do not want NATO expanding. Then I think about the hawks and neocons in our government who want to keep us in constant conflict for that money....so I'm not really surprised by Putin's paranoia. Everyone is corrupt and innocents pay the price for it.

Russia has a long history of being invaded, most recently by the Nazis. It’s something we can’t relate to here in the US.

and also look how quickly and easily Wagner rolled on Moscow. If they were serious about attacking Moscow they could have been there in what? 48 hours? From the Donbass? That's the gap. An invasion force can roll in uncontested...geographically anyway. Other than the nukes I don't think Russia is the demon that the media or our government makes them out to be. I think Poland and Finland could take them.

Containment was a geopolitical strategic foreign policy pursued by the United States during the Cold War to prevent the spread of communism after the end of World War II.

The US is still using containment strategy against Russia; and China; and Iran; and Syria; and Venezuela; and Cuba; and...

Many eastward invasions of Russia came through what is called Ukraine.

Interesting that Ukraine was a political construct not based on ethnicity; we see political constructs used throughout history to justify legitimacy of usurping power.

The Kievan Rus were Rus, ruled by a different Rus dynasty, but ethnically, the were all Rus, Another powerful Rus dynasty ruled from Novgorod, and over time the Rus power was consolidated by the Rus dynasty in Moscow.

Essentially, Ukrainians are descendants or ethnic Rus from a geographic area, just as Moscovites are descendants or ethnic Rus from that geographic area. Ukrainians are Russians, they're just nazi Russians :D

Rootin tootin pootin see himself as a modern day Stalin in Russian history or so he would like.
Russia has a sick history of whacking millions of its own people and they want to spread the love.
Anyone under the delusion USSR is your friend is dumb as a box of rocks.

Blokhin and his team worked without pause for 10 hours each night, with Blokhin himself executing an average of one prisoner every three minutes.[2] At the end of the night, he provided vodka to all his men.[17] On 27 April 1940, Blokhin secretly received the Order of the Red Banner and a modest monthly pay premium as a reward from Stalin for his "skill and organization in the effective carrying out of special tasks".[18][19] His tally of 7,000 shot in 28 days remains the most organized and protracted mass murder by a single individual on record, and caused him being named the Guinness World Record holder for "Most Prolific Executioner" in 2010.[2][3]
