i dont know how you can truly trust ones opinion if you havent heard them play :dunno: i dont think these pro youtubers and a few guys here clips suck. i cant trust forum guys who would never say a bad thing about an amp as long as they own it, when was the last time you saw a new amp day that was anything other than the new best amp only to see a month later how the dude couldnt get rid of it fast enough before you even knew he sold it? all im saying is i couldnt tell you right now where to hear a XTC or Uber despite their rep in the guitar world
I agree it can be helpful to have an idea of how they play, but I’ve had a decent amount of friends that are bad players (they admit it themselves) with surprisingly great ears for tone and appreciation of nuances (some that I didn’t even initially pick up on when we’ve hung out), yet also really good players without much of an ear for tone, so I don’t care much how good of a player they are. Usually the good players that actually get tone IME have good feel/expressive nuance rather than just technical competence like most supposed “great”, but sterile players anyway. It makes sense to me that those types of players often think about gear more functionally than tonally

I also try to stay away from exaggeration, internet hyperbole or bs honeymoons with gear, so I certainly won’t make those types of NAD threads. I ignore the guy’s that exaggerate a lot on gear forums (too many sadly). That’s an instant red flag to me when guys exaggerate. If anything I try to bring attention more to what I feel are an amp’s tonal shortcoming (they all have some) even if overall I think it’s an exceptional amp. I trust guys who have approaches more like that who are levelheaded and have at least some structure to it

Did a benefit gig last weekend with a backline, I got to use an Über. I don’t ever need to play through an Über again and I do love Bogner amps of most all flavors
Yeah I had a first rev Uber for about a month..never could find anything useful in it so away it went. This current one even sounds worse somehow…

I hear you, but I'm talking about starting a thread here and just read the responses...not from someone trying to 'maybe sell' something in the classifieds.
Like Wizards; they might not be for everyone but if you like clarity/thump/string separation, other than an old Marshall or HiWatt there isn't much better. Yet most clips aren't that good.

What you really need to have genuine concern
for is the moment you start exaggerating YOURSELF.
WTF is the source of that?
Your machines can’t hide you.
Btw, -with the lights out..it’s less dangerous…
-Here we are now.. ENTERTAIN US.

All of my past few amp purchases are rebuying amps I had to sell for bills or guitars I had on order. I hit a window a few years ago where I had several amps and said “OK I’m good”. I ended up having to sell most of them and tried a few new brands/models before deciding I was content here then I spent the past few years rebuying those amps. The only really new amp brand I am getting is a Headfirst. That’s because I consider Jason a friend and I trust his skill level and his ears. He has been a huge help in my building endeavors and hasn’t steered me wrong yet.

I really stopped watching demos unless I am already in the market for something which lately has been bass gear. You really can’t base anything off a demo or even seeing someone use it live. You really need to try it in person or feel good enough about the company to trust them. Some amps might sound and play well in some peoples hands but terrible in mine. But yeah you rarely ever see a NAD post of disappointment. We all do NAD post but I would rather see a post after the honeymoon phase.
