Uberkab- is it really worth it?

for the first two years i had my uber, i ran it through one of my 4x12 OS recto cabs. i told myself for a long time that it didnt make sense to add another cab, since i had two heads and two cabs. well, then i played through an uberkab. that pretty much sealed the deal.

compared to running the uber through the a recto cab, the uberkab seems clearer and has more cut. a little less bass than the recto cab, but the bass seems to be less boomy and reach lower registers though.

theres nothing wrong with the recto cabs, theyre a great match for my dual rec. but, the extra details that are in the bogner high gain sounds are more apparent when running through the uberkab for some reason.

Another question. How hard can you push the Uberkab when it's paired with the Uberschall? I just don't want to risk blowing the speakers...

  Louder than your ears can take. Master on 6 channel volume on 6. Loud.

Nice. I took it to 11 yesterday (actually closer to 5 on channel and 7 on master) and it seemed to flub out anywhere past that. But good God, it was loud. I went to a concert a few days ago and that was nowhere near as loud. Literally rearranged the pictures on the wall...

  I was talking bout the Twin Jet. Loud beast.

I always hear people complaining about the Rev Blue not having enough power... if it really does suffer from a lack of power, I can't imagine how ridiculous a Rev 2 or Twin Jet is.

im not sure of the reason, but i used to think my rev 2 was a little lacking in power. ive since learned that it just needs to be turned up more than what i was used to, to get the punch and volume out of it.

before i got my uber, i had been running my dual rec for 10 years. that amp is ridiculously loud with the master at about 10:30, however, i dont like how it sounds past 12 or 12:30...it starts to break up and lose definition.

with the uber, i think theres two things going on. the master and channel volumes need to be turned up a bit to get REAL loud. the sound is smoother than some other amps, so you dont have that icepick-in-the-ear sensation making it seem louder.

with all that said, i run my clean channel volume cranked, the distortion channel volume between 10:30 and 11:00, and the master typically around 12:00 to 1:00. at these settings, the uber is loud enough without sounding strained.

The gain channel volume starts to get really, really loud past 12:00, whereas the master volume seems to be more steady in its volume increases. My Uberkab starts to flub out when both master and channel volumes are past 1:00, but if you need it THAT loud, you can mic it up and send it to something bigger. :)

I really like keeping the master at about 10:30 (thus warming the tubes) and the channel volumes at about 12:30. By keeping the channel volume higher than the master, the Uber stays really tight and focused (if I want more sag, the opposite is true). It seems to get meaner as you crank the volume, so I also lower the gain a bit.

BTW Russell, I saw your Uberschall videos on Youtube and was really impressed with the sound quality your camera got without getting all fizzy. What kind of camera were you using?

I can't get mine to flub before my ears would explode. You must have hearing issues.  I get a little cone cry in the high registers on a few notes.

I think my Uberkab is kinda banged up. There's a buzzing noise when you turn it up really loud and you fret a G note... it's pretty old and it's seen some damage. However, I don't really think I'll need to turn it up that loud in any situation- live, recording, or just playing at home. :)

The cab wasn't flubbing out, the room was flubbing out. :D

  well put!

I just picked up an Uberkab last night from BigRich and I gotta say that the hype about the cabinet is totally legit. I have the cab paired up with a Twin Jet and it totally kills the Rectifier cab that I used to use with my Uberschall. The Uberkab is way more detailed in its sound, its punchier and more "precise" in the lower frequencies and it simply sounds way better when paired with the Twin Jet. All in all Im a very happy man after playing for hours on end last night with my new toy.

ps, for anyone looking to buy or sell anything with BigRich, he was a totally cool guy to deal with and definitely someone who is good to do business with, thanks again for the Cabinet!

I'm starting to wonder about my Uberkab. The buzzing noise is getting worse and I can't seem to get rid of the really harsh highs the cab seems to have. Any suggestions about what to do?

EDIT: Found out what was causing that horrible high-frequency buzzing. It was a twisty-tie, of all things, stuck to the edge of the cone of the upper V30! I carefully peeled it off, and the problem has been solved. I can't believe how much trouble was caused by something so small. It's like an entirely different cab now! :)
