What about an HR and a MTL2 EL34? Feel free to PM but the insight is helpful
I only had a 2016 MTL EL34, but I'd guess it should be close. I was way more impressed with the HR I played the other day. The MTL didn't sound as big, punchy, powerful, or as tight or high gain (weird to say lol), but part of that could be from that HR having KT88's and the transformer designed for it. Nor could it get as wide range of sounds as the HR with its 3 gain controls that also affect the eq (they're very helpful in shaping the sound). The MTL vs other Wizard's is more subdued in the upper part of the midrange and more present in the lower part, while the HR is more flexible although no wizard has midrange like a Marshall. Even with me having a Uber Ultra coming and no HR, I'd bet money the Ultra will not be able to do what made me impressed with by the HR

, but ultimately it sounds to me like a cheap amp if I’m being honest in terms of tone quality and detail (or lack there of).
This is how I feel about ENGLs. Just not my deal. I had the MLC Vogg and it felt VERY Engl like. Just more control with the eq.

The HR will sound way more open, defined, articulate, detailed, organic, and raw and punches hard like nothing else I’ve tried (including other Wizard models).

The punch on the KT88 Wizards is second to none. My mistake was getting the HR as a KT66 instead of KT88. But I have the. KT88 MTL and wanted something different.

Yeah Engl's are especially like this, but honestly the vast majority of recent made amps I've owned or tried had it to varying degrees. The only ones that sounded organic to me so far have been the Wizard's, Naylor's and Alessandro's by far the most, but those aren't for metal or hard rock sadly, but incredible tone machines still for what they do

Yeah seems KT88's really play to their inherent strengths. I've not generally liked KT66's as much in the 6L6 amps I've got (even my '50's GEC KT66's), but it would still be interesting to hear how that translates in a Wizard

This is my mtl straight in without a boost. Does the job for me for metal plenty. And posted a clip of my MC boosted earlier here.

I have a 60w KT66 MTL that I like a lot. I actually sold my 100w 6l6 MTL after getting it. Go figure. lol Maybe the C transformers vs the V. It doesn't lose anything from a punch standpoint being lower watts

Rick said it can also run 6L6s too.

If you live in Europe you might wanna check the Hiwatt custom super Hi 50 too? Should be wizard kind of thing

I hear a lot of people talking about how tight the UU is, but I'm wondering if it can also do the loose, boomy thing with the metamorph control, the "fat" switch and the "doom" setting?

Thinking of replacing my Diezel Herbert with the UU. I like pairing my brighter, tighter Wizard with a darker, looser amp to get both squishy feel and definition. If the UU can also do that saggy, spongy sound in addition to the tight sound then it sounds like an improvement over the Herbert which is kind of a one-trick pony as far as the gain structure.

Very much so. Crank the Depth knob and turn it to Uber, Fat, and/or Doom settings and it sounds just like the original Uberschall with the massive low end. This thing can get essentially any tone with enough experimentation.

So glad you’re enjoying the amp. You’re one of the fellow Uber cult members on this board like I am. We deserved the wait and results this amp brought 👍🏻

I definitely consider myself an Uberschall cultist. But objectively speaking, this latest iteration blows the earlier ones out of the water.
Uber-Cult ! ….. So it looks like you had the UU next to an Uber in your avatar pic. Is that a rev green ?

Uber ultra was cool and definitely good for the price but my hell razor absolutely was in a higher tier. They have different voices, but all I’ll say is that someone I know who owns a bunch of hermanssons was impressed by the HR and preferred it over some of his hermanssons

For me my MI Beta is the perfect pairing with a wizard- between the two of them I haven’t found anything I’ve liked as much besides Hermansson (haven’t played Larry or gower or any of that super expensive stuff, but I’ve played almost everything below 5k and have owned a bunch)

Interesting. How would you compare the 5 stage Hermansson to the HR?

That's awesome, I'll check it out. Which Wizard are you pairing it with?

I still love my MTL/MCII Hybrid, but damn this HR talk is GASing me up. That price is nuts though, I could make the UU work but the HR would be tough.

Yes, it’s a Rev Green (or Rev 2). I’ve had that one for about 10 years now and will never part with it.
