*Updated* Friedman BE Mini or Soldano SLO Mini as backup?

I still don't know what I'll do as a backup. Two nights ago I was looking up LINE 6 GO pedals 😆.

At a show, most likely I'm going to have my 5150-III and a 1x12 or 2x12. Would be great to just be able to reach down and plug in another solid state amp without too many changes.

So looks like the following are good ideas:
- 44 Magnum pedal (won't be able to use effects though)
- Howitzer pedal (has effects loop, preamp, etc but lower watts)
- Mini amp (Soldano, Friedman, etc)
- FlyRig (would need power solution)

I'm glad we are all putting our two cents in because good information for all of us. I could take a second amp with me, like my Friedman, but it is a tube amp as well and heavier than a pedal obviously. Would be nice to have a light, easy solution.

If you’re like me, the hunt is half the fun!

Thanks to you and your thread here 😝 I picked up a slo mini. 😆
🤣🤣🤣 Just great, now your family is going to hunt me down 😆

I think threads like this are great! Alot of gear we are all unaware of. I have an Earthquaker Swiss Things inbound so I can hit one button for solos, etc. I'll let you guys know how that is.

Agree….so much killer stuff out there..and the route you’re taking, you can test out quite a bit of options without spending a bunch of cash.

Let me reinforce my stance on the mini amp.

1. Plenty loud if you’re already mic’d up
2. Effects loop
3. Light as a feather
4. Takes up very little space
5. They all sound good

just get a ehx and a SLO pedal, why bother with a clunky head and less wattage?

Why does the pedal sound better? I've seen that and thought the pedal WAS the amp basically. Nuts that they are different.

I didn’t try the SLO pedal into the EHX but I did try it with the Seymour Duncan Powerstage and it sounded dark and muffled unless the treble and presence were maxed and even then it didn’t sound that good. I’m not saying it’s not gonna work but from everything I’ve read the SLO pedal is designed to be ran in front of a clean preamp . I’m using it with the Blackstar Amp 1 and it works great. I used the AMT S1 preamp pedal with the EHX Magnum and the Powerstage and that sounded really good . I’d recommend that pedal into the EHX

For me the SLO Mini has been very cabinet and room dependent . In my jam room which is just a basic bedroom sized room but I do play fairly loud in there, thru my Splawn 2x12 with Greenbacks it was a draw to which sounded better , I might give the edge to the SLO mini. In my other jam room which is a bit bigger sized getting a useable tone out of the mini is a bit more challenging for some reason and the SLO pedal thru the Blackstar Amp 1 absolutely shines . I’m using two 1x12s with EVH Celestions for that setup . Running a TC Spark mini into the loop of the SLO mini is pretty effective for a nice volume boost

That is crazy how different the tones are between them. I'd be using my 5150-III or Friedman cab.

Yeah for some reason whatever gear I take out into the bigger jam room it sounds a bit different but I guess that’s to be expected plus the cabs and speaker are different

The downside to me getting an SLO pedal is that I'd need the pedal, a power amp, and there is no effects loop. With the SLO Mini, I basically would just be able to plug my cables in and would just have a lower volume amp, albeit solid state versus tube. It would be a backup and not my main rig. The SLO pedal is cool too and I could plug it into my Behringer pedal with cab emulation for recordings.
