Anyone else reading about the drama with the owner of VIK guitars and all the homophobia etc etc?

What do you all think?

Who cares.... he pulled a Sterling and got burned. He's defiant so has to stick with his position and lose endorsers. If anything, maybe this can bring the price down for everyone else. At the end of the day, he has a right to believe what he wants but from a business perspective, he probably should have thought twice.

PS- those are ugly guitars anyway! Guess i have a right to an opinion too...

I agree with that, everyone can believe in what they want but as a business owner, that's your livelyhood, so to go out and say the things he said to the extent of telling a guy that he would charge him double for a guitar if he was gay? Yikes, brutal move.

His guitars should be used as props in the dirtiest gay porn imaginable.

Some creative photoshop work, sticking a throbbing member as a headstock would be in order.

The way the left wants to persecute those that disagree with their mantra is quite neo nazi.

Charging double? Mmmm.... Crosses a line with that.

Dumbass

I'm not sure what was said. By the things stated in this thread i'm guessing it was an anti gay remark. Why does he have to be ok with it? If he feels it's wrong thats his opinion. Why demonize him?

IMO it's bad form to use personal opinions to run a public business.

Generally, people don't want to support others who have immoral beliefs.

I haven't heard about any of this because I don't have any association with the bizarre internet click that's infatuated with Vik and similar guitars.

Not a good year for this guy. He needs to STFU and just build his highly overpriced ugly guitars and quit worrying about the rest of the world, or at least commenting on it. What a tool.

Bottom line, I think most of us are surprised at his poor business decision. We could give a rat's ass about what he believes.

Immoral beliefs? If he is catholic....? I'll stop. Tolerance in this country really means tolerate the liberal leftwing views.

So what you're saying is, the correct way to treat intolerance is to tolerate it?

Yes, please stop yourself.

The bottom line is that if you are business owner, speaking out on topics that are controversial like politics, religion, morality, etc. is a major risk. Depending on your views and current societal norms, you run the risk of alienating a LOT of people. In fact, no matter what your views, popular or not, you WILL alienate at least some folks. Operating a business is hard enough without alienating people. What some folks consider "the courage to speak your mind" others will change their opinion of you forever for. Especially when it comes to matters of religion/morality… People tend to see these issues in an extremely black and white fashion and are incredibly passionate about being "right"… Not much room for tolerance there…

If you run a business, believe whatever you want, but it's best to keep your mouth shut about these things…

This. Just ask the guy that owns Chik-fil-a. They sell chicken, who gives a rats ass about his religious beliefs. Your bound to piss off a large percentage of people by stating an opinion on controversial issues and then you lose them as customers. Its a no win situation so just keep it to yourself.

The point was that two founding members of Cynic, who also toured with Death, came out of the closet in public.
Why even have an opinion about it? There are lots of things that come to mind, that make me respect PM and SR.

Why the need to express ones feelings about someone else's sexuality in public?

They don't prey on children, dead people or animals. They fall for individuals with beard growth and a sac.
I don't want to picture their sex life, that would be a little "eeeh", and wouldn't partake in such actions myself, because I personally like soft woman skin and boobs.

There is a difference between east and west on the matter, and Vik's view is probably quite common in his part of the world.

He's a complete cunt. Make no mistake. He deserves for his endorsers to not want to do business with him anymore.

What I don't 'entirely' agree with is how so many popular & influential artists & players have gone out of their way to publicly flame him. They are all from the same clique as well.
Any differences of opinion, regardless of how extreme they might be, should be settled privately in my opinion. The thousands of people who are massively influenced by these artists, who may have otherwise bought a Vik guitar on the merit of the instruments he creates (which are excellent btw), are now unlikely to buy one.
So it's easy to consider that all the likes of Bulb & Per etc etc have succeeded in doing is further destroying someone's business for their own personal cred points & popularity. It's all a bit contrived for my liking & I think those artists could've kept their opinions to themselves & let the public do the deciding.

That being said, now is probably the time to buy a Vik guitar as they'll be rare as rocking horse shit when his company dies. They could be the next Blackmachine guitar. :)
