Kirk Hammett has definitely overused the wah pedal IMO. He has played entire albums with it on every solo.

That's an exaggeration. He's never used a wah on every lead on a single album. There's always a few leads that he does not use it, some of my favourite hammett leads are just guitar and amp, with maybe a tubescreamer. Like "creeping death" or the lead in "master of puppets".

He doesn't use wah anymore than Zakk Wylde, yet no one gets on his case about it.

Because it hides mistakes and makes simple pattern pentatonics sound more complicated then they are. I have heard many players tell me they love way and can't get enough of it. It is a snore to listen to and should only come in for parts of solos or gradually in a sweeping way. All the great players know this... The rest do not.

You continue to amaze me with all of your "absolutes". Glad your opinions are always the "right" ones.
Do you still have a hard on from the vai thread? Grow up man, he asked for people's opinions and I gave one. If rockin a wah back and forth all day is your thing then have at er'. I happen to think people lean on the wah as a crutch. I am sorry if it disagrees with all that is right in your world.

You need to grow up man..you make statements of opinions as absolutes. Or maybe learn to express yourself in a more open way. What you "think" isn't always correct, it's your OPINION but you make statements in your posting as facts...see your thread above.

Seriously? He gave his opinion and didn't state anything as being factual. Why is it that for people like you we always have to have the YMMV, IMHO, etc so you won't get your panties in a wad?

So lets say I say sauces on food are there to cover up bad cooking. Is that a fact? No that's an opinion.... nothing more.

The majority of shit you read on these forums is opinion so keep that in the front your brain and you'll not post these butt hurt responses.

I stopped using one as often after I had a wah die on me after sound check one night.. I didn't have time to get a backup and thought "I can play without it".. I never realized how much I depended on that thing until that night. I used it like a crutch to cover my personal slop. I ran a board without a wah for several months and really got better for it.

Eh, either you can play. Or not.
The wah doesn't cover anything up.

I for one cannot stand the Hammster, nor his use of the wah. With that said, Vai, Schenker, and Amott use it in a way that is musical. It's barely there, but when they bend a note, it jumps out of the mix.

I'd rather listen to too much wah on a solo than the de-tuned simpleton crap.

I heard that Kirk had wah pedals custom installed in place of the accelerator and brake pedals on all of his cars. He's also coming out with a line of footwear fitted with wah pedals for heels.
  WTF
