What did Cameron modded amps cost back in the day

Those were the amp days :)

I had no idea @psychodave was on a premier guitarist amp review of Cameron amps. That’s actually really cool. I’ve met Dave in person and we chatted for ages like we’d known each other for years. Dudes great - hoping he will let me bring the prototype up to get his opinions and do some recordings 😎
 
the three I had were all modded marshalls and around 2k back in the early 2000's. None of them what I would call great but good for sure.
 
I know pyschodave has a Jet City 20 watter that he modded with advice from Cameron and it sounds great.. maybe better than a Cameron. Where was Cameron amps based out of?

i have no clue...i think this was the iteration of cameron amps before the brad king era. i have no clue who was involved in that run of trying to take the brand into the limelight.

i bought one of the brad king era aldrich mods...#4 for whoever has it now lol (model was called the "old bitch"). that endeavor involved brad, dave friedman, rob (dave's partner at racksystems) and in some weird way george metropoulos although i never fully understood how or why he got involved.

He was a friend and handled advertising such as in that video and handled money and who was owed what. Basically an attempt by Cameron to try to fix what he had already screwed up, but it wasn’t yet public knowledge that a screwup had occurred. They were taking orders like it was Chinese takeout.

This is actually the era I was trying to order a custom ocean modded SLP from Chris as they actually would take custom build requests. They wanted all money up front though and I couldn’t get the money in time before they stopped allowing custom orders all together so I never got to order one. There was a time period deposits were allowed for the CCV and CCM and that is the list you see quoted randomly for refunds or amps for those who paid in full.

Looking back it was a saving grace - the ocean mods didn’t sound as good as his Aldrich’s IMO. Come full circle I think I’ve cooked up something better than both.

damn what a crazy time. i guess thats how brad got hold of the rights because they were so far down the drain, someone was needed to help shore them up.

Exactly - that’s how Brad got involved because they needed equity to build PCBs and get hardware to move product to people as Brad was the owner of the forum, saw the cluster unfolding, and had the money to put into it. Brad however wanted it done by the book which would have meant Cameron’s circuit tricks would be out in full swing for all to see and he wasn’t having it so he stopped offering to help and all hell broke loose even more. Brad said he’d invested and lost well over $20,000 by that point.

I know the George part and out of respect for George I’m leaving that as no comment. His business is amazing and he’s exceptionally talented and not affiliated at all.

Cameron wanted everything hidden still and obfuscated. Brad wanted schematics made and sent off to PCB manufacturers for production. Just a huge business disconnect and many people were caught in the middle. Cameron had to give up the amp brand name and let Brad own it or it was a percentage stake ordeal - something else Mark didn’t want to do.

Anyone willing to do business with Cameron right now are fucking nuts. He’s burned every bridge you can.

And yet there a group of guys who would still crawl over a pile of dead bodies to have Mark mod their amp. All those guys who got screwed over? "As long as I get what I want, screw them!" It's really pathetic.
 
On the used market, other than the sovteks I don’t recall a single Marshall mod under $1500-2000 in the “late” HCAF era between 2003-2007. Maybe direct you could get them under that, but even then there were the stories of missing amps and questionable practices so that was a gamble. Prior to 2004 is maybe when the super cheap amps were available? My first Cameron I got in ~’05 was a 2 channel JMP hg/lg Jose that was $2200. Also had a cell phone charger inside to act as one of the DC supplies😳. Still the amp I kick myself for selling as it sounded phenomenal but I was a broke ass grad student

the most hilarious part about the PCB situation is that mark and his new partner are trying to find a new manufacturer for just that process now aren't they?

man hes a great amp modder but what a missed opportunity
