What did you do today ?

Technically this was yesterday but worth a mention, received this 1980 Les Paul Custom. This is my 4th LPC because I have a problem and my second Norlin, the other being a 1979. It’s dirty and grimey and I’m gonna take it apart today and give it a good clean and polish but initial impressions are it’s pretty awesome.

Man, everytime I see a Norlin I miss the one that got away

Whoever stole that guitar out of our UHaul lucked out bigtime

The jump there was a bit more dangerous, even though shorter. You had to clear all the rocks. But it was gorgeous out there

I don't know about shorter bro  - you got the rest right though. I was kicked out of the park immediately. Went back to the truck and smoked a spleaf and a beer. Not my pics:

They’re a vibe. My newer LPC’s are better built but I dunno, something about these that’s rad. Also they only ever did the plain top tobacco bursts with the full body burst job in the 70s and early 80s so not much choice to get that finish unless I got an M2M or something, but music zoo made a couple of those and they still were a bit different, they looked too nice. Haha.

Yeah mine was a 77 in black, but it was also super beat up - the buckle rash had started to gnaw into the actual wood on the back

For some reason the Norlins just have a specific feeling, like the weight and the way they're set up, that Gibson doesn't seem to replicate anymore

Yeah. I hit a rock when after i hit the water, bent my toe completely sideways. I was slightly irritated and it took away the magic of johnsons after that. But that is pretty

Most Norlins are decent if you don't mind 13-14 lb boat anchors. The pancake body is a little different.
5 piece neck [ 3 piece maple w/ 2 ears].
Id take one ive had a couple.

Skied Fri and Saturday. Was supposed to rock climb yesterday but power company closer our road for a pole replacement

This one’s only about 10 and a half pounds so not too bad for the era and still in the average for even modern customs, they’re just heavy guitars in general, haha.

My 1997 Custom Shop is 10.6 #. Hardly feels any different than a 9# to me.

That’s a nice one, great yellowing on the finish.

3 of my LPC’s are over the 10lb mark. This one, a ‘79 (11lbs) and a 2022 (about the same as this one). My lightest is 9 and a half and honestly I’ve learned that might be my ideal weight as far as playing shows but the extra pound isn’t a deal breaker at all. I get used to the heavier ones pretty quickly after a few shows on tour.
