Haha, Florida gets plenty of hate and there’s parts of it that I think are total garbage but I love South Florida. I don’t really bother with anything central or north but yeah, love it down here.
Yup, that's exactly where I dream of moving to.

As I said in another thread, I'd like to breed tropical fish year-'round outdoors and the south's the only place you can do that.

Plus I love the warmth.

Bred and raised cichlids since I was a kid. I have a 260g aquarium with Durso overflow that is empty right now. I have a sick canopy, but can't seem to afford the lights. I can't decide what to fill it with either.

I've bred the South American, as well as both African lakes, and wound up with multiple tanks that spanned the house, lol. Ex wife wasn't happy.

I'm wary to dive back into the hobby with freshwater. was thinking I'd go saltwater when I dive back in. :dunno:

I wouldn't go saltwater unless you have easy-enough access in order to collect your own (water); shit's way-too-expensive IMHO.

260g? If you're only setting the one tank up I'd recommend going South American community. You could go earth eaters, Oscars, Altum Angels, Silver Dollars, Plecos, some colourful dwarf cichlids... oh and how could I forget Severums? Dang, I absolutely love those fish. Just to break the S. American rule you could throw some Congo Tetras in there too, just 'cause they're so-cool.

LED lighting has come way-down in price and Hell, you could even pop some LED shop lighting in that canopy, no?

For the uninitiated, here're some Severums. Love 'em!

That's awesome man. I've done the tanginyaka and malawi tanks. I always get sketched out when they have babies, and can't help but make new tanks to house them. I've wound up with 8 additional 55g, which didn't go ver well. :aww:

That's exactly why I suggested the S. American community tank bro'.

There'll be breeding in there, sure, but the fry are far-less likely to survive in that environment than your "colonising" Tanganyikan and Malawi cichlids.

I'm done with S Americans. I had a Red Devil that terrorized my whole colony. I finally ended putting him in the piranha tank, thinking he was gonna be done. When I looked at the tank the next morning, he was on one side, and the group of piranha were just looking at him from the other side. He had some war scars, but f'n gnarly fish. I'm thinking a group of Frontosa at this point.

Dude, a Red Devil doesn't belong in a community tank... unless everything else is 3x the size... at least.

An old buddy of mine had one as a solo display in his shop. Peeps used to touch the glass and of course he'd try to take a chunk out of the pane.

In the end the tank shattered. 12mm glass. 'nuf said.

PS
I thought Jack Dempseys were bad 'til I encountered Red Devils. Love the Jack Dempsey. Bred 'em once. Just 1 pair to a 55g.

lesson learned the hard way.

Do like Jack Dempsey's and Manganese as well. They have a pretty good personality. Have also had brackish puffer tanks, those things act like dogs, lol.

Yup, Parachromis Managuensis has made a bit of a comeback these past few years.

Yeah, puffers are like dogs. I like brackish water. Pretty-much all brackish fish are tough-as-nails and eat just about anything.

I had 3 spotted puffers, and they would recognize me out of all the people that would come over. They were WAY smarter than I thought a fish could be. I wanted to get an Mbu after that, but there is no way...even in 260; :aww:

I know….not as cool as saying I can’t justify my 22nd gun….you bastards 😔
Unemployment sucks but it is what it is…
I was just trying to make a joke, as everyone was talking about all the guns they have.

For every guy who's sad because he has only one gun while other guys have 22, there's 400,000 guys who are sad because they only have 22 guns while other guys have 22 gun safes.

Yup, the Mbus are more like dogs than puppies.

Big fuckers.

If you have an interest in tropical fish then where I live is the place to be! I don’t keep them, but I am a scuba diver and being in the ocean with all various creatures that inhabit it is a pretty surreal experience I’d recommend to everyone, ha.

The local reefs have all the regulars, various tropical fish, lionfish, pufferfish, sharks (mostly nurse sharks but some hammerheads and others on occasion), rays, turtles, etc.
