What guitars does everyone have?

Man, some of you guys have some nice axes. My guitars are turds in comparison. The guitar I've been playing the most is some kinda Ibanez LP copy with a Duncan distortion in the bridge position, love that pickup and the guitar has a good resonant sound to it. That's about all there is to say about it. I gotta LTD viper with EMG's that I dig a bit too.

I'm kinda GAS'ing for a strat with a single Humbucker in the bridge position right now after watching a YouTube comparison vid. That snappy sound of a strat is really appealing to me right now.

I see, I will have to try out SS frets sometime and see what I think. You are not alone there, I find I grip the neck quite hard myself, and where my main guitar has a thinner neck you really feel when you are going too hard in your hand.

Well, I have had the guitar since 2010 when I bought it new, so they are coming up to 15 years old! Granted I have had quite a few health issues during this time which has limited my playing, but it is still a well played guitar, I am just amazed that standard frets have lasted this long.
One of my good family friends has a lovely MIA Strat, I think from around the same time, and the amount of flat spots and divots on his frets is insane, I don't even know how he can play the guitar with it that way.
I keep telling him to get a refret as I think it is well past the point of a recrown/level, but he is happy playing it the way it is, and it still sounds good somehow.

Yeah you should definitely try them out! Ya, I think that's the benefit of thicker necks, they seem to feel better in the hand in those cases.

Wow, that's really impressive! I wonder if some frets are made differently? I've had some guitars that don't have any divots yet, but other that do quite a bit.
Lol, I guess as long as it sounds good for him ?

Well, yes and no. With tone knobs, even if they're on 10, there is a little loading of the pickup(s). By removing the tone knob, you "open them up" just a tad and make them a tiny tiny bit hairier and more aggressive. I prefer the sound of pickups like that, personally, and I don't really use tone knobs. Even in the LP and the EC the tone knobs are not wired in. They're just dummies.

Believe it or not, my Strat is actually less snappy than either my Gibson or my LTD.

The "problem" I find with Strats is, when they have bridge humbuckers, Fender pickguards tend to have the bridge pickup super far away from the bridge itself to the point where they start taking on almost neck pickup like qualities.

I had to really search hard for a pickguard for mine where the bridge pickup did not end up like a mile off from the bridge itself. And even then, if I could have it a bit closer, I would, but the route itself wouldn't allow more than a couple mm. My Strat is really picky about which bridge pickup I have in there. It has to push the right frequencies, or else, it sounds super blunt and overly smooth compared to the Gibson in particular.

I will for sure! Well mentioning thicker necks, I have an Aria that I literally found in a skip that had been thrown out, gave it a setup and its a perfectly good guitar! It has more of a baseball bat neck compared to my ESP, but I actually really like it. I may try and get a guitar with a thicker neck, possibly a Les Paul as I would like to have one.

It is isn't it! I would imagine that some frets are definitely made differently, similar to how stainless steel wire has so many different types, such as SS316L vs SS317L. I would imagine that some of these alloys are resistant to fret wear compared to other alloys. If this is the case it makes sense why some have divots while others do not.

I never knew that, it seems like I am learning something new everyday since I joined this forum! I prefer the sound of my pickups with the tone knob at its maximum, but even then I sometimes find things a bit wooly sounding, as if someone had put a duvet over the cab, the best way I can describe it.
If I removed the tone knob on my guitar, would this help get rid of this?
And I didn't even realise they are just dummies, best to keep them on though or the guitar would look a bit silly.

I love them all, but the blue Suhr, black and gold LP, and the black LTD are my favourite. My brain has gone dead, what do ESP/LTD call the explorer shape again?

That explorer is kind of an interesting one. It's an EXP-200, but the first 300 or so of them were made in Japan before production moved to South Korea. The later South Korean ones had 'EXP-200' on the 12th fret inlay, where this one has two dots. I had it refretted when I got it and it's a ripper.

1987 Kramer F-3000 (Not the Focus 3000. My Kramer is a pro level guitar.) - This one's not mine, but I have the same model guitar and color. I run a Suhr Aldrich bridge model in the bridge (it's never coming out of this guitar) and DiMarzio HS3's in the neck and middle slots.

2010 Ibanez AS73 (ES-335 style guitar) - This one's not mine, but I have the same model guitar and color. A good friend of mine passed away 10 years ago and his widow gave me all of his musical gear. This guitar will be with me until I die. Gonna put new pickups and wiring in it. Seymour Duncan SH-2n Jazz neck and DiMarzio DP153 FRED in the bridge. I'll bet it rips with the new pickups and wiring. The stock Ibanez pickups SUCK. LOL

I've got a yamaha rgx612a that I put a 81 in the bridge position. It's a pretty nice guitar, but the tremolo system is useless so I had it blocked. The guitar is from '88 I believe??

Thanks for the info, maybe I should look into a Charvel instead? They seem to have some nice strat style guitars.

So yours was one of the made in Japan ones? Do you think that the Japanese made ones are higher quality than the Korean models? I know that my MH1000 is Korean made, and I can't fault anything on it, I did need to adjust the truss rod, set the intonation and adjust the TOM bridge for lower action out of the box but I would expect that with any new guitar. There are no fret ends sprouting, the finish was flawless and (at least to me) the wiring and soldering seems to be done at a high quality level, and the cavity has black shielding paint in it which is a nice added touch.

Great custom made guitars. Basically custom shop level Charvels with alot more options i.e. neck styles, pickups etc... for lack of a better description. Dig around here, lots of guys on here own Chubtones. Great stuff.

Yes, it would help a little, but not night and day. If you don't like the pickups generally, it's best to find something different. If you like them, just want a tiny bit more, then yeah. :D
