What od pedals work best with the BMAN and SL2 mods?

Side note: Xotics nomenclature for their line of pedals is the worst. Ever.

The BB isn't a PREAMP. It's an overdrive pedal. Come on. No one's sticking this thing straight into a power amp, so WHY call it a preamp? Bad idea.

The AC isn't a booster at all either. Nor does it sound like an AC30 at all. It's a very midrangey, almost TOO smooth, OD/Distortion box. If you like the BB, chances are, you're NOT gonna like the AC. I really couldn't get a useable setting on it at all.

The only thing in their product line that is a true BOOSTER, in my mind, is the RC. Pure, uncolored boost, with very transparent gain. It's like an MXR micro amp, with a gain control and a hi/lo EQ.

Xotics naming of their pedal line has caused tons of confusion, and spurred about a MILLION unnecessary threads over at The Gear Page...

Eric, I think you and muudrock differe a bit on how to use the SD. I know you say you can use it with high gain modules. I know I would need something to kick on while on a heavier gain setting like with channel B of the EG3/4 or SL2............not just channel A.

I would like the added mids and compression. Then again, at high volumes and the fact that I always have my mids at half way, maybe I should reconsider. :D

I use the Sparkle Drive on any module. I use the BB only on low-mid gain modules. That's what I prefer.

3 MIle, the BB works well on the Fender modules and maybe the SL but not so well on higher gain modules for a mid push. It can sound harsh! However, there is a guy demoing the BB on youtube with his Mesa Boogie and I am surprised at how good it sounds.

I hate to be a broken record here Rich....but....i really think it's your speakers that are making things sound harsh. I didn't like how the sugar's break up...they had this graininess to them....

Their naming is not so good, but I do like all those 3 pedals. I use the BB and and AC and both fill a need. The AC is magic going into ch B of the VX module. The BB into CH A of VX is great for a Bluesy Andy Timmons vibe. I just picked up the RC recently and I like the eq feature on it, but I haven't integrated it into my setup up yet.

Ac can sound that way Nick. It's not yours. They generally work best into a very tight sounding Fender type amp or a Vox. Egnateralready has teh smooth going on so it is redundant and mushy sounding. Unless you were to run into T/D or something.

I use my BB in front of my EG3 sometimes , gain at about 12 noon. Sounds awesome. I'll grat you if you already have a really high gain module liek an SL+ or some thing cooking teh BB might not be the best. But I honestly don't get running anything beyond a semi-clean boost into a high gain.

I totally know what you mean but I was talking more about having something to kick up the mids for solos. But honestly with the SL2 channel B...I can probably just kick on my volume boost in the loop. I really may have the cap mod done on my EG3/4 and make that my main tone. I will use channel B as my rhythm and just use my volume knob for varying gain! Then, I can turn up the gain on the EG3(A) side for leads. I find B better for rhythm because it is brighter and tighter.

Maybe at high volumes it is best to stick with the amp's gain and not use pedals. Tough call. I am winning an SD on Ebay and may just cancel. Crap, I don't know.
I think I will hold off for now till I figire this out.

It's such trial and error process. I think if you go at it with the attitude that you'll find what works eventually things work out in the end. You gotta just keep trying things.

Dude...get a SD :) Everyone should own one!!!! You can't figure it out until you TRY IT!!!! :) Talking about it does nothing except making your mind wander!!!

Go to GC, buy one...try it...if you don't like it...take it back....if you like it...take it back...and buy one used on ebay :)

I don't have enough room on my board for the MK Boost, BB and SD. :scared: :)

BB and SD will be fine man :)

Maybe I'll be able to sell off my MK Boost, the best volume boost I have ever used, bar bone. Great for a boost in the loop.

I know you guys say you don't need a boost for the higher gain modules like the SL2 and EG3/4 but I think Eric does prove it can be done effectively with the right pedal like the SD. I will admit, I liked the SD because it didn't seem to have a lot of gain which I didn't need.

Now, what about guys like George Lynch or Steve Vai? Both use TS type pedals into hot amps. So, why do they use these pedals if the Egnater mods have no use for them....is it because most of their amps are low gain like older plexis?

I know the SL2 is probably the closest to the Lynch tone but is he maybe getting a lot of his tone from hitting a lower gain Marshall like a Plexi with a Tube Screamer? I know he is a big Cusack Screamer fan!

For high gain modules you probably ought to consider a clean boost. Keely Katana, Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster, something along those lines. Fulltone Fat Boost works great for me.
