All this talk of amp brands that no one talks about, I started thinking about all the amps I've owned. Not as many as some of you guys, for sure.

First real amp....not a practice amp, or your first combo. Your first gig worthy amp. What is it.

My first amp was an old tube Kalamazoo that shocked me all the time. (1994)

My first real amp, that I gigged with was a Marshall Valvestate 100 watt 2 x 12 combo. (1997)

It was serviceable, but not really my thing... looking back.

First true tube amp....Laney GH100L(1999)

So, remember your first REAL amp?

---- disclaimer: I'm not saying SS amps aren't real or talking shit about any amp. Whatever one works for you. If it's a Roland cube ..cool!

Well my first amp was a Peavey Bandit 112 and I did gig with it. After that, I got my Butcher Half stack.
Both still awesome today....that butcher...or a VTM is on my list....after a classic 120/120

Pre-CBS Fender Bandmaster + 2x12 Bandmaster vertical cab; next I think was my Univox, this, I painted the light blue panels black:

followed by a new Sunn Beta Lead head and 2x12 cab

I've often seen those for sale and wondered if it would make a good pedal platform. What are they closest to, Fender, Marshall, or Hiwatt?

I got a Carvin X Amp head in 1990. The era of grey fuzzy Ozite covering lol. Up to that point, I'd just had a Peavey Backstage Plus.

The Carvin had a killer clean channel, but I never really vibed with the overdrive. I think was pitched as a modded Marshall-style, but I'm not sure if it really was, and maybe I just didn't know how to dial it in.

the Sunn Beta Lead was CMOS early digital, not very good for pedals as I recall; I had a few EHX and MXR pedals in the mid to late '70s. If I remember correctly, pushing the input too much would clip unpleasantly.

Sorry I was referring to the Univox

First amp ever was a Peavey Blazer 158 practice amp

Then came what I considered an upgraded practice amp, A Peavey Studio Chorus 210. It could never hang with any of my friends' amps. I converted it to a head at one point and bought a Crate GT412 to go with it. Still didn't really hang with the others well.

Next was what I consider my first real amp. Well first two real amps since I bought them within a couple weeks of each other and don't remember which came first. Those were my Crate GT3500H Shockwave and Blue Voodoo 300 heads. I guess using those puny amps for so long I may have overcompensated a little bit. Shortly after those I got a Blue Voodoo 150 for a backup to the 300. Those were my only amps for a good decade. They served me well and I still have them. I did recover them a few years ago
