My 1990 explorer... saved up and bought it new. I think I paid $1200 in 1990. I had to have it man.

I'll join the ranks with Gibson Explorer. I bought a second hand one in 1984(?) for $400. It was black with a Dirty Fingers pickup. I played it for about 4-5 years early on as my primary. I remember it being pretty green and rusting out a bunch of hardware by the end from sweat! I swapped it for a Robin Melody in the late 80's and have stayed with super-strats since.

My love for Explorers has not faded as I've built a couple of bolt-on ones with strat-scale necks on them.

I bought a virtually brand new cherry sunburst 1981 Ibanez Destroyer II DT 400 with dot inlays from my friend's roommate in Foster City, CA around 1983 for $300. This Wiki page has the actual picture of what it looked like: Ibanez Destroyer II DT 400 I traded it away to Guitar Center in the mid 2000s to get myself a 1996 Gibson Les Paul Custom since I was moving away from pointy guitars. I kind of somewhat regret doing that now, but it was the one that got away from me.

Ibanez PF230, a transparent black, 3 pickup, bolt on neck, gold hardware Les Paul copy. After that, a red G&L Rampage with a Kahler like Cantrell's.

No name tele that my brother took the neck from and stuck on a plywood body we painted black/white. It was a plywood " schenker" flying V and it sounded like absolute ass. High action. Not playable. But very smashable! Neither of us knew anything about guitars.

Mine was a Bentley Series 10 Charvel clone. standard strat trem. two months after I purchased it, the fingerboard came separated from the neck. local deal would not honor it so I was out 300 bucks. I joined FFA that year in school, borrowed the money from my parents to get a pig and feed. once it auctioned off in the spring I cleared exactly enough to purchase that guitar while all of my friends were playing Kramers.. talk about a shitty experience.. live and learn
