I have the Q2N 4k. On board stereo mics sound good, and with the correct cable you can hook up a SM 58 or something and mic your cab if you want. It's a pretty simple but versatile unit. The only real drawback is the battery situation. It uses two AA batteries and sucks them dry in no time. I use an external USB battery.
So for you Q2 users-
PDC, DBN, Zeegler, etc
What settings work best for loud amps? I've been messing around with 'Concert' and 'Meeting' etc. What about Low Cut? I am assuming the higher the video quality, the faster the battery will run down. And no really watches stuff on 4K yet so all of that seems useless for now - but great maybe later. Also, once you get your base setting, then you use the mic wheel to adjust just below clipping (red) and then record. As you can tell I have not watched any tutorials yet. I will try to do that soon and record some more samples so I can figure out what works best for loud amps.
Hey Zeegler - if you get that external Mic thing figured out let me know. I have an SM57 that I plan to just sell now but maybe I should just hold onto it. And yes, I can see the battery thing becoming an issue. So I bought a battery pack online with GC but it is for the Q4n and won't fit my Q2. That's pretty much my fault I guess but damn. So then I bought what I thought was the right cable to connect to USB power but got the wrong one. Then I bought an HDMI to HDMI mini but it doesn't fit. Jeese. All small First World problems that I can resolve.
I'm hearing quite a bit of fluctuation in level/volume in this clip. One of my complaints about recording with my smartphone is that the camera mic compresses in a variable way that causes these same fluctuations. Like if I am just playing chords the level is consistent but stop/start dynamic strumming causes all kinds of problems. Thoughts?iRig Pre or TC Vocal GO.
Both plug into your headphone jack and allow you to plug an actual mix directly into your phone, and defeats your internal phone mic.
Here's an example of my using the iRig Pre with an sm57
That's why video is clipping so much Got it.On my old Zoom Q2HD I stuck with the default settings and turned the gain dial as low as it would go.
They work great and they’re easy to useScrew it, I ordered an iRig Pre to try with my SM58. I think this will be a convenient way to quickly record ideas, and hopefully capture some rad room tones from my Boogies.
Oh yeah, I got it up and running right away. I got a cable from Amazon. It's your standard male XLR at the microphone end, and a 1/8" jack at the camera end. Let me see if I can find the link for it.
Here we go.

As for the audio settings, I use the manual adjust and keep it well under clipping. I haven't really messed with the low cut yet.
Hey there. Looks like you went ahead and ordered an iRig. Good for you. I was close as well but worried about my older, non standard company phone. Interested to hear your thoughts and your boogie clips.I'm hearing quite a bit of fluctuation in level/volume in this clip. Just to follow up, I bought an iRig to use with my LG V30. Well I think the android app has some problems. While this product is designed for use with iPhones, android phones are hit or miss in compatibility. I could not get the app to export files properly which was a dealbreaker.Hey there. What I was going to say on the volume fluctuations (which you've probably already figured out) is that the iRig disables the camera mic, so those fluctuations are not the phone - it is probably just how much Bad Seed was digging in etc.
LP Freak - great tone and playing as always. Love those Mono mods
^Damn nice son
That had a little bit of everything. Great in room clip and monster playing.
I probably should have tried that. I lost patience with the device pretty quickly and decided it wasn't worth the money anyways, so I returned it. My audio interface is right next to my cabs so I'll just plan on going through that and using Premiere to link up audio/video. Oh well.Have you tried recording without the app? I don't use it. My Android records to mp4 then I connect the phone to my PC, transfer the file and edit in Windows 10 video editor.
