what's the best sounding mesa dual rec?

I like both and use both regularly, however if someone put a gun to my head and told me to pick one or the other I'd keep the Roadster.

a friend of mine has a roadster but i haven't played it. i'll have to get over there and check that one out too. thanks

When you do, be sure to run an overdrive in front of the amp with the level maxed and gain mostly off (tone to taste). On the amp, keep the bass and presence somewhat low. Keep the mids, treble and gain somewhere around noon. That should give you a decent starting point. Use the diode rectifier for a tighter sound.

I don't get why people look at the Tremoverb through such rose colored glasses. The high gain was the same as any other 2 channel dual and the blues and pushed settings were average at best. Especially compared to what a Lonestar can do now. Plus the tremolo was pretty harsh on those.

The Tremoverb does not have a "pushed" setting. The only real difference from the other 2 channel DR's is the clean channel is much better in my ears. Not like it is a great clean or whatever. The blues channel with it's big midrange hump in some ways reminds me of the lead channel of the Mark Series. No one take this to mean other than some similarity's. It is it's own thing .... it does OK for getting more vintage sounds. The Orange and Red channel tend to be a bit darker on the Tremoverb .... Mesa told me this was because the extra stuff in the circuit adds a bit of high end attenuation.

But I believe you are right .... any of Tremoverb, 2 channel Dual and Triple Solo head's and the Rackmount are the ones I like better. Some amps just sound better than other ones and I have seen good and bad examples of all these models.

Did the clean channel just act like a regular Orange rec channel? I thought it had a mini toggle that went from clean to "pushed" or "raw" or something like that. It's been a while since I've seen one.

I have a 2010 Mesa Dual Rec and it sounds great for that recto tone.

That is the three channel version you are thinking about.
The Red channel can be switched to Blues ~ The Orange channel can be switched to clean.
The Tremoverb Clean channel tends to be a lot smoother with more headroom than the other two channel DR's.
The Clean and Blues channel can do a pretty good crunch with the gain turned up.

Yes!
I also have a 2010 Dual Recto and It stomps
all over the older Recto that I owned in the past.
The older Recto I had needed a boost pedal
to get it in that sweet lead tone, the 2010 loaded
with EL-34 tubes, sings all on its own without a boost.
Probably has something to do with the newer one being
loaded with EL-34's and my older one loaded with 6L6's.
I love the vintage setting, sounds very Marshally, coupled
in stereo with the Splawn Quickrod, sounds Fantastic!

I was just about to say this.

Also, the Tverb doesnt have as much gain as the other rectos. Would need an OD for uber metal. I think they sound better with an OD in front anyway

I haven't tried a reborn yet, but I've liked all the Recto's I've owned and have come full circle in a way.

Started with a 2 channel Dual, then a 3 channel Dual, to a Roadster head and now a 2 channel Triple with 34's which is my current fav.

i dunno man i've been watching youtube videos of alot of rectifiers, and maybe they're not "different" enough from my amp now. i mean they kind of sound similar - now that my TSL has been modded it has that sound in it i think.
i haven't found too many videos of what i thought the "DR" sound was - which is like some detuned 7 string korn or something with a brutal heavy distortion you know?
that's the main thing i'm looking for i guess - something able to get some really heavy/ "bro0talz" (lol) distortion sound/ or sounds. something different from the "modded marshall" thing i guess.
am i looking at the right amp, or maybe i should be looking at a different one? or is it just that the youtube videos i've been watching are crappy? lol
i just gotta get out and play some of these amps i guess when i get ready to buy.

Have you seen ola's videos? His youtube name is fearedse. He has great heavy rectifier clips.
