What's the most articulate amp you've ever played through?

Unless I suddenly forgot how to read, the thread title isn't, "What amp is the easiest to play though?"

There's a 99.9% chance that an easy to play amp is very compressed, and therefore, very likely the opposite of articulate, hence their point.

The Einstein isn't compressed sounding at all IMO. Not even close.

VHT UL and either of my Wizards.....I don't find either of them unforgiving and hard to play though

Try to play Necrophagist thru a Wizard.... not easy at all. I know you don't like that stuff but if you want a challenge....

Regarding the topic at hand my Mako Custom 100 is extremely articulate as was the larry I played.
Whats a good tune to try? I know that "good" is relative and all

I'll give anything a try once! well almost

The Einstein I owned sounded great for soloing, but the rhythm tone was very muddy :aww:

Very muddy. I had a like o.k./hate thing with that amp. Leads were nice to a degree but that amp was muddy and lifeless as hell IMHO. The Herbert was the same for me. It was like the amp was made to sound like a recorded guitar that has had post eq'ing done and compression added instead of making it sound like an amp with good open texture and bite. All my worthless .02

From what I've played I guess my vote would go to the Diezel Einstein.

Really?

Is that hard to believe or something?

I still wonder what you did to piss off ejecta to make him hate you so much

Easily my first amp, the Sears Solid State. I regret throwing it in trash. The genuine pressboard cabinet had a unique tone. Nothing else I've ever played had those humming transformer overtones.

  I dont hate him at all. He has pulled some shady stuff so I personally would be reluctant to do business with him but hell, I dont know him in person. I dont hate anyone for that matter let alone someone I dont know. I just disagree with his view on the Einstein is all.

In regards to my "lifeless" remark maybe that was too strong. Its hard to put into words sometimes. Too compressed and not alot of that lively upper mid to top end cut.

I think it depends on what kind of articulation you're looking for... Im guessing you're talking about the high gain kind... a Plexi/JMP with a boost is pretty freakin' articulate IMO, but so is the VHT UL I played. The Diezels Ive played have been really articulate but I agree with Ejecta, they can sound a little compressed on some channels. Peter Diezel was actually telling me at NAMM he wants to take out some of the compression out of the 4th channel of the VH4 and third channel of the Herbert. Even he thought there was a bit too much.

I kind of felt like the Einstein was a bit too compressed when I played it at the Vigier bash, but I also didnt even bother setting it up, I just plugged in and said "fuck it, lets rock." :D

I think some of the Splawns are a bit comrpessed sounding, but when you come from a Non Master Volume amp into a high gain amp, they all sound compressed in comparison. And I dont mean that negatively. They're just different.

The way it should be! :rawk: Im sure you brought the Black Toe Down stank that tore the roof off the sucker. The Einstien's are nice amps but just not my thing due to the amount of compression that is there. Like you said compression doesnt = bad just different.

Of course it does, but I find the thread title pretty self explanatory. The MOST articulate amp. There is no qualifier there of high gain or not. And therefore, it's NOT going to be a modern high gain amp, period, if you ask me. There are countless amps that'd come first just based on the type of design they are, and even many of those will still pale in comparison to others.

And that's why I'm getting quite the roflcopter out of this Krank, Diezel, VHT, and whatnot stuff. Lol dude started off talking about a Cornford, and then that's where it goes IMMEDIATELY afterwards. Nobody even mentions the non-modern high gain VHTs, they just go straight for the UL haha.

Not like it's a life or death serious question, but nonetheless, it's quite funny how predictable the responses were.

I dunno.... they're all the same   Their music is non-stop wide interval string skipping riffs usually played at 230 BPM. For that stuff the Wizard fights you. Though it has enough gain for it, its too open and uncompressed for that style. Playing that stuff on a 5150, Bogner, etc is much easier. At the same time I find playing conventional hard rock/metal isn't really any easier or harder on a Wizard vs. the more compressed amps like Peaveys, Bogners. It just sounds better on a Wizard ;) The perception of how unforgiving an amp is really depends on what you're playing through it and what techniques you're using.

I've got to stop being so long winded :aww: ;)

Of the amps I've owned the VHT Ultra Lead was the most articulate with my current Engl Invader 100 coming in second. Another amp that sounded VERY articulate live was the Mako Dorado but I've never played one myself.

Muhammed could handle it through any amp! He's my hero   Live he sounds just as tight and perfect as he does on CD. For some good tunes try Seven, Stabwound, Fermented Offal Discharge, and Advanced Corpse Tumor. Hilarious names I know   But the guys can play their asses off! The solos in the last two songs I mentioned are to die for!
