Which Bogner for me?

I'm pretty happy having come to this decision. Now my mind is at ease and I can simply wait until I've got the full sum (a matter of weeks maybe).

I'll let everyone know what I think of the amp and there'll be pictures, too!
Thanks for helping me reach a decision! :)

Congrats on the decision making process... Now you can go to bed at night dreaming of that liquidy awesome classic tone you'll be oozing in just a matter of time.

The Sheev's is dead sexy, and man, from the clips I've heard, I'm surprised MOST tone aficionados don't just automatically have one. It's like health care...mandatory.

Peace!!

Time... Time and too much gear as it is!! I haven't even racked this Mak4 and poweramp and cab system up yet (thank goodness I'm getting all that sorted out on Wednesday). But ya, my sessions space has got stuff still in boxes man - another amp right this moment would just be a pointless addition. In time, I see myself getting a Sheevs... As well as an Einstein. But man, I'm just a hack hobbyist (with a pretty killer DAW and recording spot, but non-pro hack nonetheless).

Better than hookers and blow, at least in my case it is :lol: :LOL:

Sometimes I regret selling my Eini. There was something about it to fall immediately in love with. You never could get a bad tone out of it. After getting the Shiva (and maybe an Überschall later this year), I may develop the desire for a 50W Eini. Please shoot me. :doh: I wanted to downsize to the mininum.

Just not possible, if amps are not purely your means to an end but like an expensive hobby. :no:

OK, guys, I found out that the store I'm planning to buy my 20th Shiva from can also get some custom options done. One would be EL34 tubes for the 20th Shiva. Should I? It seems that most people prefer these tubes in the Shiva, but naturally I have no idea how I will like the KT88s in there. The thing is that I'm not comfortable soldering inside such an expensive amp myself, so buying an alreaedy modded version would be the way to go...if I knew this was the way to go. ;)

Another question, a bit related: Is the clean taper mod on the Twin Jet an official mod, i.e. can it be ordered from Bogner this way? If yes, the TJ is not totally out of the equation yet.

Sorry to re-open this can of worms but the more one dives into a subject matter, the more options come up. Still, I'm pretty set on the 20th Shiva. The reverb yes/no question has been sorted out. Now about the tubes... :confused:

Yeah, the clean taper mod is standard now for ch. 1. Really the choice is simple...Twin Jet for a very wide, modern, in your face aggression...does rock - modern metal and has a great lead sound on ch. 2 without have to re-tweak from your rhythm settings. The Shiva for great mid-gain to high gain JCM800 grind, albeit more liquid and round...more of a classy, refined gain by comparison. If you need a great clean then the Shiva is the way to go. The Twin Jet will not clean up as easily, but does have two sick gain channels with a lot of flexibility with the added power amp controls.

The 6550's will do it for you. You will not want EL34's after hearing and playing it. No soldering needed. I do have to say soldering inside a bogner is very easy as everything for the most part is done topside.The only troubles come if a can needs to be replaced.

So, in other words on new TJ models it's no longer necessary to have that mod done? I will get back to this once TJ gas has started. ;)

I will have faith! :worship: ;)

Just to be on the safe side: 6550 tubes can be dropped in without any need for further modification inside the amp and rebiasing works fine via a normal multimeter and the external bias test points. If I've swapped tubes on my Eini, then I'm good to go on the Shiva.

By the way, I just realized someone else opened a thread with exactly the same title as mine. This had me confused or a moment.

No external points in the Shiva. The pot is easily accessable underneath. I use a probe and my meter. A hotter quad should work fine.

OK, I may ask again about tube swapping when the time comes. But for now...dare I say it...?

I went ahead and placed an order for a 20th Anniversary Shiva + Reverb (black tolex)!!! :lol: :LOL: Not from the store I had originally wanted to order it from, as they don't offer customer-friendly conditions. Anyway, the head is not in stock. I guess it needs to be ordered from Bogner, so it'll be a few more days (weeks?), which is fine by me. Spares my poor credit card a little longer.

This place is really bad! Glip22 and Ventura should receive sales commissions. ;)

I'm just the Shiva Pimp's ho... I'm his bitch.

Get me over to the Diezel site and that's where I'll dole out the quality tone candy temptations :D

Can anyone who really knows this for certain tell me if the 20th Anniversary Shiva + Reverb (black) or maybe the entire 20th Anniversary line is limited in any way? I'm asking because it has turned out more complicated to order one than expected and one store which has it in stock claims it is limited. I just need to know if this is purely a sales argument or not. Thanks!

Not sure but I emaliled Charley at Bogner and he said they were still making them and this was yesterday.

Ok, because I now have one on order from a major German music store. I just feel better doing business with big ones (not that there are many music stores around here anyway), since they usually offer credit card payment and a 30-days return policy plus charge little (or nothing) for shipping.

Funny story: The Shiva + Reverb wasn't listed in that major online shop. I sent an e-mail. They gave me the item number plus the price. I had to ring the store to place the order (since, evidently, I couldn't do it online). Of course, the call center people are not the ones who actually know about the items. I told the girl on the other line the item number. She found the Shiva, albeit with a higher price. I referred her to the e-mail I had just received half an hour earlier by one of the actual staff. Anyway, I told her the "real" price (which is the same as in every other store that has the 20th Shiva + Reverb in stock), but there seems to have been an auditory problem. When I got the order confirmation, some numbers were turned around and it has made the amp approx. 700 Euros cheaper. Now, I'm sure someone will see this mistake sooner or later. The text on the confirmation said "The guitar (!!!!) you ordered is not in stock. We....." What? So now I'm waiting what actually happens. The item description (Shiva) is correct anyway.

So, rant aside, thanks glip22 for getting that information. This means that since the online store in question ordered a Shiva for me, I should still be able to get one from Bogner's own stocks or maybe a newly built model. Tsss, sales people try every trick. ;)

I heard only the white tolex was limited.

~~~ UPDATE ~~~
Much to my surprise, I've just received a notification that the ordered item has been shipped! This means that next week I'll hopefully be the proud owner of a Shiva! :lol: :LOL:
Well, regarding the story above, I'm still curious what I'll find in the box (maybe a "Bogner guitar" ;) ) and the amount my credit has been charged with.
Watch this space! ;)
