I wouldn’t sell any of it. That’s all great stuff.
Yeah, exactly what I thought when I first stumbled on this thread.Lol are you trolling?
A grocery list full of lifetime amps. You should thin the herd and appreciate what you got because it is great stuff.
The Cinnamon Burst is a 1994. Beautiful quilt top and weighs only 8.5 lbs. Still trying to find the right pickups for it. I just ordered a set of Suhr Aldrich that I'm hoping will work well.First off. Great taste in music. 90s and 00s is the best.
I'm gonna need to see all of these tops weather they are for sale or not. And what year is your Cinnamon Burst?
- Gibson Custom R9 in Tobacco Sunburst (insane top)
- Keeping
- Gibson Custom R9 in Lemon Burst (insane top)
- Selling
- Gibson Custom R8 in Factory Burst (totally insane top)
- Selling
- Gibson Les Paul Classic Premium Plus in Cinnamon Burst
- Not for sale
Hey man, thanks for the input! I definitely take your thoughts seriously. Completely agree with your rationales, especially on the Boogie. So, first of all, excellent problems to have. I have a similar taste in music, and, have owned similar amps to yours in the past so this is my 2 cents.
My personal keep list and why:
- 1970 Marshall 1959 Super Lead
- It is a classic sound and a fantastic year for this. You can always get use out of this one and everyone should have at least one classic unmodded marshall.
- 1983 Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ DRGX
- I have an HRG C++ and the price for yours would be insane...but, I do think it has a vibe which can't be fully replicated. I love that sound for metal, but if you are kind of on the fence I would list it...keep in mind you are not going to get another at whatever price you sell it for as the prices will keep climbing.
- 1990 Marshall 1987 "4-Hole" JCM 800 Friedman Kitchen Sink Mod
- I have not owned one of these, but I did own a Marsha. I am not a super huge friedman person but I would keep it for just rock versatility alone.
- 1998 Naylor Super Drive 60
- This is unique enough to keep on its own
- 2012 Friedman Naked Mk I
- Same reason as the IIC+--but if you had to sell it....well I'm here haha
- 1993 Rev F - As a lifelong Marshall person who has adamently hated rectifiers--this amp is fantastic.
- 2023 Omega - I have a 2020 Granophyre and really like it. It reminds me of 5150/marshall crossover in a lot of ways.
Very interesting takes. I have no experience with the Carstens so I'll definitely take your word on their quality (having 3 and all). If you're into the fast metal thing the Granophyre will stay, if you're not--well it'll get posted. For what its worth the overwhelming feedback from people that have had both the Obsidian and Granophyre is they all seem to prefer the GranophyreHey man, thanks for the input! I definitely take your thoughts seriously. Completely agree with your rationales, especially on the Boogie.
I love that Mark IIC+ but I could live without it for like $10-12k, haha. That said, it's a one-owner amp that I bought for $5k and it included all the original paperwork and correspondence between the original owner and folks at Mesa, including a handwritten letter thanking the buyer from Randall Smith himself. I'll never find another one for that price pretty much ever, so I think it's a lifer along with the Super Lead at this point.
The Friedman-modded Marshall is just a personal favorite. Every time I plug into that amp, I smile. I owned a Marsha, an old BE-100, a BE-100 Deluxe, Smallbox, Twin Sister, etc. and this one is just my absolute favorite of them all. I think the reason why is that it's actually bright for a Friedman. It still has that thicker Friedman low end and chewy feel, but with a brighter, clearer top end from the Marshall power section. I only run the Treble at like 5-6 and the Presence around 4.
The Naylor I was really, really on the fence about especially since it's an old Michigan-era one; but, it sold this morning for $3800 so I have no complaints. The Naked is very similar and frankly fixes some of the Naylor's flaws, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on too much.
The Rev F arrives next week. I'm hoping it sounds a little better than my old one. I suspect my old one was tinkered with by some tech at some point. A guy I took it to locally here in SD to change the tubes and rebias told me there were bad solders all over the PCB. So hopes are high that this new one sounds better.
Interesting call about the Omega. I am strongly suspecting I'm going to sell that one when it arrives, but you never know. I absolutely hated the Obsidian they sent me so my expectations are tempered for the Granophyre. I'll approach it with an open mind, though.
The Bogner XTC 20th sold for almost full price, too, which I'm grateful for because the Uber Ultra is probably shipping any day.
I'm also very surprised people are all saying to sell the Carstens amps. I think they're amazing and I've never played anything like them. Of the three I own, two are collectibles: the Grace signed by Billy Corgan and the Grace Deux is serial number one.
As far as guitars go, I've got a couple of bites on the fancy-top R9's. So hoping those will sell soon. Thanks to everyone here who encouraged me to sell them. They are absolutely drop-dead gorgeous but you can always get another one. Fancy-top Les Pauls are not in shortage, haha.
Do some Tom Andersons like Billy Howerdell for pickups. The Cinnamon Burst is a 1994. Beautiful quilt top and weighs only 8.5 lbs. Still trying to find the right pickups for it. I just ordered a set of Suhr Aldrich that I'm hoping will work well.
I actually had Tom Andersons in it already. H3 in the bridge and H1- in the neck. Hated it. Way too muffled and too many lows.Do some Tom Andersons like Billy Howerdell for pickups.
You got to show a pic of the Cinnamon.
Nice looking guitar.I actually had Tom Andersons in it already. H3 in the bridge and H1- in the neck. Hated it. Way too muffled and too many lows.
Tried an old Duncan DDJ bridge and a Thornbucker in the neck next but didn’t like that either. The DDJ was very thin and pointy and didn’t work well with the Thornbucker because they were two totally different sounds.
Tried a BK Nailbomb set next (that’s what’s in it now). The bridge is ok, a bit dark without a lot of punch. The neck I absolutely HATE though. It’s all pick attack with no sustain. The pickup set on the whole is very “clicky” with a ton of pick attack but not much else.
So now I’m on to the Aldrich to try and add some oomph while keeping the top end clear.
Here’s the guitar:
Thanks. Yeah I ran it through the Naked for the full Billy Howerdel experience. Those Tom Anderson pickups just weren't a good fit in that guitar for whatever reason. Interestingly, I have almost the same exact set in my Tom Anderson Drop Top (H3 bridge; H1 neck) and I love them in that guitar. Go figure.Nice looking guitar.
Interesting about the Andersons. I assume you ran it through the Naked.
EXACTLY.Yeah, exactly what I thought when I first stumbled on this thread.
When I finally realized how rediculous it was to own all the gear I had, it was pretty easy to let it go.
I almost gave a lot of it away and I never regretted it for one moment.
Ya sell the Naked to me pleeeeaseOk team, I have a topic that I thought would make a fun thread. I need to sell some gear. Not because I have to but because I am literally out of room and over my personally set limits. I want to get to no more than 13 amps and no more than 12 guitars. I play mostly dark hard rock in the vein of AiC, APC, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. I also love classic rock tones like GnR, Zeppelin, Van Halen, etc. There's also a dash of punk in there, stuff like AFI, Blink, and Green Day. Finally, I grew up in the 90s so always play a lot of old grunge and post-grunge stuff like Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, STP, Metallica, etc.
Here's my current inventory of guitars and amps. Some I already have and some are incoming.
The question is: which would you list for sale or not list for sale, and why or why not?
I've put the ones I'm leaning towards listing for sale in italics.

I have a custom shop fender with a floyd rose.I have a soft spot for a couple like the Friedman modded Marshall and even the Naylor. But like the guy above said, you can get that again.
Sorry man no FR’s. Nightmare to maintain.I have a custom shop fender with a floyd rose.
Yeah, after Mike offered to build me a Granophyre to replace the Obsidian, I listened to videos of the Obsidian and Granophyre back to back and in a blind listen test, I could pick the Granophyre out every time. It's definitely got more mojo than the Obsidian. I'll do a short video when I finally get the amp and update that old thread.Very interesting takes. I have no experience with the Carstens so I'll definitely take your word on their quality (having 3 and all). If you're into the fast metal thing the Granophyre will stay, if you're not--well it'll get posted. Sure man, no problem.Wow! This is very nice piece of tech info! Thanks for sharing!
Sure man, no problem.
I just got the amp back yesterday and made a "first impressions" video post-service. Check it out below if you're interested. I put timestamps since it's super long. You can even hear Mike B's settings.
No worries, it's not for saleWouldn't sell the Naked. Based on Naylor, it covers all those 90s bands perfectly.
Sounds like the perfect mix of a Marshall and Dual Rec.
Don't blame ya. Can't believe what Naylors go for now. The world has gone crazyNo worries, it's not for sale
