Which modded Marshall?

So I've had several nmv and mv Marshalls with pedals in front but I'm missing the versatility. ATM I have an untouched 78 2203 but don't think I want to mod it and ruin the value.

My favorite tones are 70s nmv Marshalls as heard on 70s/80s rock and thrash metal - Rush Zep ACDC Aerosmith UFO Scorps, Priest, Maiden Metallica Exodus AIC, etc.

I've been looking at friedman bogner etc but also thinking of getting some sort of modded Marshall like ceriatone Hopkins etc, but there's many mods and builders out there class different flavors etc. And some more available than others.

I'm looking for that classic Marshall tone with the FOOTSWITCHABLE option to have the stock rock tone, high gain metal tone and a clean plexi tone with good eq shaping options and a good master volume?

Who has the best build out at a decent price that will do what I want?
 
I’d say Hermansson . My 5 gain stage gets me whatever Marshall tones I need. But hard to get atm
 
I am currently over the moon with my 73 NMV 50 watt Marshall with an assortment of AIB pedals out front: Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe; Suhr Eclipse; Friedman BE-OD Deluxe. Each one provides a distinctly different flavor, but all maintain that identifiable Marshall character. With 2 dedicated channels on the Eclipse and BE-OD Deluxe, it really is like a 3-channel amp: pedal off is that big, warm NMV clean tone - then set one channel for a ‘rhythm’ type crunch and the other for wide open leads.
 
+1 on the Alta being _perfect_ for that as long as you can hang with midi footswitching. The tech 21 midi mongoose works perfectly with the alta and doesn't require much midi deep diving.

The key to the alta being so great for this is the midi-switchable bright/clip/modern settings. The right combinations of those bump you from maiden -> metallica without turning any knobs. You can emulate _some of that_ with pedals, but it won't quite get there.
 
I have an Atla and I love it. It's pretty much the perfect amp for marshall tones that isn't a Marshall IMHO. It just covers a lot of ground. You can basically have one channel set to a plexi or 800, and one set to High gain and one to clean. I'm a complete noob with midi and was able to setup a 100 foot controller to do everything I needed. I don't even use any boost with it. Just plug it in and effects in the loop.

My next choice would be Ceriatone then Splawn. If ground zero and monomyth had channel switchers then I would go with them before ceriatone.

Ceriatone has a JCM51 that is a 2 channel amp one channel is a plexi and the other is an 800 with lots of bells and whistles. I would like to have one of those but it isn't going to be a high gain.
 
I play everything from indie rock, alternative, classic rock, punk, doom, thrash, and death metal. The Atla can handle everything I've thrown at it.

I kick myself for selling my 73...

My plan is to get another and leave it stock, hence the hunt for a separate channel switcher hot rod

Yeah man. It's the closest out of the ones I've tried of the non marshall hot rodded Marshall. Check out Headfirst 's demo where they dialed in some sounds.
 
I do like the tone of the Yeti so I'm looking for something similar to that tone plus channel switching, high/low gain etc.

sounds promising. maybe I'll stumble on a used one...
 
What's your budget man?

PS: Try a newer Splawn if you can. the new features including the master volume, B+ switch, new/old, means they are not as stiff as their older brothers.
 
Newer Splawn quickrods have been upped gain wise and have different iron in them than older ones. They are all not the same. Stay away from the 2006-2009 era - the era of weird mids.

If you hate stiff there’s no replacement for Cameron mods. Just so easy to play and no boost required. Fucking love my aldrich and I’d go down with the ship before I sell that thing.

Define “decent price”.
I’d recommend the Bogner “Helios”.

Ceriatone King Kong is basically a 2.5 channel Yeti. If I was looking, it'd be that or an Alta.
