Who's using a Klon-type for metal?

MXR Sugar Drive is a great pedal to boost a high gain amp with. Like mentioned earlier, it does what most of us want from a boost but not in an overbearing manner, imo.

My Rimrock Mythical Overdrive in front of my JCM800 2204, brings the metal in a big way!

So I got the TC Electronic Zeus in, and it's pretty good! I like that it's got less stuffy mids than a Tube Screamer, and more biting upper mids. It also has TONS of pick attack, I guess because it's blending more clean signal in.
It's not as modern/tight, but it has a cool dirty vibe to it.
Might need a higher-end Klon type now, LOL.

I live mine I haven’t used it in a while but it is like magic with a 2204 circuit.

Also, the new krisiun record is a 6534 with a soulfood up front into a Marshall BV cab for any of the death metal guys out there. Great tone for sure I thought.

So I got an Archer Ikon... and I like the Zeus better, LOL. It's smoother. The Archer Ikon is much louder, but the Zeus is loud enought.

Nekrobump. Is the Klone-booster trend still a legit thing? I still have my trusty Yeti, and an Orange TT for fast jams, and while the Yeti takes boosters no prob, the TT is damn picky with pedals: apparently doesn't love TS9 styled pedals and everything that delivers mids like hell and smooths out bite/treble. I've found an Archer Ikon for decent price, but I'm not sure if it's decent for higain stuff.

It does sound good IMHO (I do it with a Way Huge Conspiracy Theory). It does something great to the high-mids. But it is noisier (hiss) than my other boosts, especially the Maxon OD808. I still prefer the OD808 in the end. Here are the perfect settings for a 2203 on the OD808 as a bonus : Drive at 9 o'clock, Balance and Tone at 1 o'clock. Mmmmmmh juicy !!

I long sold my Klon-types. They're great, don't get me wrong, but I found the amps that I like (5150 and Recto) get along better with Tube Screamer types.

Out of the two that I had, the Archer and the Zeus, I liked the cheapie Zeus better, to be honest.

People here love how their Chiron made by @griff10672 works with their metal amps

I have tried several klones over the years used as a boost. Always went back to a TS or SD1 type for that type of boosting. Fell into the Wampler germanium hype and bought one of those deluxe models when they botched the release. Loved it one weekend and now don't use it.

Should keep it because it really is a cool pedal but, it is not cool enough to me to have that much cash tied up into it.

If you want to avoid Klon types and TS types ..... a great choice IMO is the Greer LightSpeed ... it uses the OPA2134 Chip ..... super clean .... not a lot of gain ... doesn't have the TS mid spike ....

It’s def great . I fucking lice this band . And the tone has a certain color that comes from the soul food

I have Wayne's Black Friday SD-1 on order. The way people I trust gush about his pedals, I almost feel like ordering the Chiron site unseen.

its definitely different enough from a SD1 to justify both!!
yeah, from the descriptions and feedback, I think I need it.

I'm having a blast with that mimiq pedal btw. One downside. I have to turn it off and unplug one output every so often, so I don't get so spoiled I can't listen to one amp anymore. :aww:
