Who's using a Klon-type for metal?

yeah, from the descriptions and feedback, I think I need it.

I'm having a blast with that mimiq pedal btw. One downside. I have to turn it off and unplug one output every so often, so I don't get so spoiled I can't listen to one amp anymore. :aww:

Ha! i try to tell everyone how fun it is!

If you want to avoid Klon types and TS types ..... a great choice IMO is the Greer LightSpeed ... it uses the OPA2134 Chip ..... super clean .... not a lot of gain ... doesn't have the TS mid spike ....

This is good advice

I regret selling my lightspeed

It works really really well for marshall style amps

Thanks everyone, got the Archer and we'll see how things will sound. I was tempted but a great deal on a SD-1W, but like I said the Terror is a lil fucker when it comes to mid prominent pedals, it just hates them. Maybe I'll get an EQ too, so I can avoid the rounded highs effect TS9 like pedals deliver.

Yeah, I'd assume a mid boosting pedal into a mid boosted amp would sound like listing through a telephone speaker.

Keep in mind, though. The Klon is also mid boosted, just in a different kind of way.

My Dark Terror loved my Wylde Overdrive, but the Dark Terror had a way to offset the mid-boost-iness of the Wylde OD.

IME TS9 based pedals are especially annoying with those amps that are inherently mid/low-mid oriented but not overly tight and crispy enough to handle the honkiness. I wanted to give the Klon a shot cause it's apparently quite even EQ wise, and it's sorta safe bet with clean amps (my next purchase).

The MXR ZW was high on the list too, as the 78 distortion (though I've never been a super MXR fan). Same goes for the DOD250, two knobs but plenty enough.

Yes, they work great as boosts. I have 3 on my board I switch between; Chiron, Mythos Mjolnir and Lichterm Audio Aquaria.

I wasn't really recommending the ZW for the TT. It was good with the DT, but I feel like it would just thin out the TT too much, same as TS-types.

As far as OD's that have more neutral mids, I think OCD might be worth taking a look at. Or maybe a TS-type that has EQ capabilities like the Duncan 805 where you can get rid of a bit of the honk and not neuter the lows.

But give the Archer a try. You might love it. Like I said, I did find it boosted mids, just in a different way compared to a TS. I see the advantage is it doesn't cut all the lows like a TS does. And the mids it boosts are not as honky as TS kinda mids.

The good thing about the Archer was that it brought the pick attack forward without neutering the low-end.

There's likely a reason why the OCD is the most suggested pedal for Orange amps, I just didn't happen to find any used here in Italy so I guess I'll save it for another time lol. Never considered the SD 805 OD, it's not something you see that often on pedalboards, how's it? I have space to fill in my board atm.

I might as well consider a low cutting OD in place of a EQ (I've have bad luck with EQs in the past when put in in front of amps, very annoying hiss and not very natural sounding units. Maybe things got better in recent years with mxr or boss), like a boss SD-1, I just don't like what the SD-1 (which is better than TS9 IME) does to treble, it gets fakey. I heard the Waza fixed this a lil, not sure.

The 805 is great. There is more gain range than my TS808, meaning it's cleaner when the drive knob is set low, and more when the knob is set higher. It has the EQ section which is very usable and intuitive, but even if you "clone" an 808 with the 805's EQ section it still has its own character which is a bit tighter and polished than a TS. Only downside is it has a tiny little less output volume than an 808, but it's no biggie. It's not much. An SD-1 is also quieter than an 808, but it still works great.

The SD-1 is pretty much a TS type too, though.
