Why didn't Vernon Reid get the same respect as a guitarist as his peers?

Why wasn't he/the band as respected and popular?

I was watching a You Tube video of Cult Of Personality, and a particular user's message made me think, so I figured I'd ask you guys.

I just think they didn’t make too many great songs. And when they did it would get to wild fir mainstream . Time I think was called is crazy af

As someone born in 99, as far as I know they were a one hit wonder. Fuckin damn good song but the only one by them I’ve ever heard.

They have better stuff but it’s too weird and arty for most

They hit a little late too. Wasn’t cult of personality big in 1990? A lot of people were over it by then

I think the biggest issue isn’t anything with him personally. The band just didn’t have as big of a profile and as many hits as their peers.

you need to add "all of the above" to the poll. the one time I saw him play cult live he flubbed the solo big time.

i think he did ok for himself, that song was all over mtv back in the day, pretty sure hes been on the cover of guitar world or at least had articles about him, they still have 1.2 million monthly on spotify. they are one of those bands kind of like Kings X that dont really have a genre to fit in which im not sure helped them

I think it’s because they only had one hit and the leadwork in the song lacked to me musical coherence and doesn’t really show great technical skill either (at least guys like Lane or Becker did that). Even some of EVH’s or Yngwie’s leads are more musical (can’t believe I’m saying that lol)

Late to the party, and not as good as many other bands at the time IMO. Then grunge / alternative hit big.

^ Yeah that’s a good example of why I am not a fan of anyone picking from the elbow to play fast, doesn’t sound good, sorry.
