Why didn't Vernon Reid get the same respect as a guitarist as his peers?

Why wasn't he/the band as respected and popular?

For me it was the combo of sloppy playing and horrible tone ... I never really like Hendrix for the same reason. But hey i'm also the only person on the planet it seems that thinks that solo that Nuno does on the new song Rise is kinda of awful ... started off great and then wonders off into some cat falling down stairs thing hahaha

I love Nuno and Extreme but Rise was just kinda meh to me. Not bad per se, but just meh.

Dont laugh but I had the ESP Vernon Dayglow/ axe.
Should have hung onto it.

That guitar looks like the intro to the show "Martin"

Vernon is a great guitarist, but his era was and is so full of insanely great players that he was simply and rightfully overshadowed IMO.

I really like Living Colour's first album, not as much their others. Their were a lot of great bands in the short-lived funk metal genre. Sadly, only Red Hot Chili Peppers are remembered. They were the worst of all imho.

Fishbone fucked pretty hard

I loved the poll and I think it hit it right on the head.. he was a sloppy spazzy mess and his rig was a bowl of spaghetti. Imagine trouble shooting that on tour..
I did a one-off gig with them - GREAT guys. Even got to play his prototype Parker signatures.
But man - troubleshooting that signal path would've given me a heart attack if anything went wrong during the gig.

Some music sticks to me and some doesn’t. I cranked Vivid in its heyday in my car all the time. Some really good stuff and COP might have been my least favorite song. But I completely forgot about them over time. It happens.

Yet certain bands that I seemed to like equally “in the moment” stick over time. STP and AIC come to mind.

STP is probably my favorite band of that era. Great Songs…

Late to the party on this one but the singer, Corey Glover fucks WAY harder than Vernon. That dude can fucking belt it. He's more memorable than Vernon on ALL the songs. No offense to VR. I'm still a fan of his.

Great riffs in cult of personality but the lead stuff sounds disjointed and out of pitch. He is just throwing out notes and trying to pick fast , timing is off also. With that being said, the solo that was on the recording of the song was somewhat memorable which is a good thing. But I don’t see how he could be put in the camp of others around in the 80s like say Marty Friedman , Nuno Bettencourt , Vitto Bratta, Reb Beach.
