Another reason you see so many used, IMO, is that a lot of people think if they get one it will make them play like Guthrie or Andy Wood. When that doesn't happen it goes up for sale.

^ point.

Recently I've been thinking about picking up a suhr modern. They look like great guitars and build quality seems second to none my only reserve is that I always see them up for sale in classifieds here and other places. Just trying to get honest opinions from some guys that have owned them for a while. I had a jackson sl2h but found it a little too dark for my tastes. I currently play a 2011 r9 and clapton strat but want something with 24 frets and more options. Thanks for any opinions.
Go find one with a Basswood body, maple cap. and all maple neck and board. 3a Birds Eye roasted is nice but make sure it's not finished. I have owned nine of them.

A lot of good gear gets flipped here and elsewhere. It's not isolated to Suhr guitars. Even though I'm sure a few are "turds". :loco: :jerkit:

I have one for sale. I'm selling because I love my suhr with a 16" radius board. The one I'm selling has a compound radius. I will be buying another with 16" board once that one sells. Suhr makes one bad ass guitar. I own four at the moment.

I had 16 Moderns at one time. Loved them. But I'm playing something else now, but no slam on Suhr. They are excellent.

Suhr sells a lot of guitars, and Suhr is popular here so you see a lot. I would imagine the percentage that are for sale is insignificant to the overall # they put out to happy customers. And again, just because someone is selling a guitar, or amp, etc. doesn't mean they didn't love it.

Buy one! I have a Modern satin and a Pro S1 - best guitars I've ever played.

There's a lot of everything for sale. I've bought and sold Suhr's as I've bought and sold everything else as well. But the modern is a no go for me, I don't like 24 fret guitars and the Modern I had....egh, it was all right. I much prefer the standards or a Pro Series S3 or S4.

Suhr's do lean Fender IMHO. If you prefer darker sounding guitars with more bottom you'd be better off with Gibson or PRS...IMHO.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm really thinking about jumping on a modern m6 i believe it is. Looks like its exactly what I am looking for. How do the gotoh floyds compare to floyd ross? Also for those that own a classic how do the necks compare to the moderns. Do suhrs generally have slim necks (which is what I'm looking for)?

Modern neck shape is completely different than standard or classics. There are 3 sizes besides custom sizes. The Gotoh trem is very good and he prefers those over the OFR.

.780 - .830
.800 - .850
.820 - .870

Play whatever does it for you. Dont let the market effect your decision on a guitar. Like danyeo said, lots of everything seems to be up for sale. My #1 is a Suhr Modern Carve Top. Love it so much i'm having a 2nd one built as i type this. If i had more money i would buy several more.

My custom modern covers a lot of bases & I can't really justify owning two or three electric guitars of that quality at the moment. It doesn't play & sound like a LP really, but it's got more mojo than most 24 fret guitars i've played. For build quality, you'd do well to find many better USA guitar builders I think. They've got a lot of character.
The cutaway is really the only gripe I personally have with the design. Everything else is flawless. It's what makes the Vigier Excalibur, EBMM JP guitars so playable. They're just not as pretty. I would urge everyone to really focus on demoing the higher register of the moderns to see whether the horn hinders their left hand in any way. It can get on my tits sometimes, parried only by its superiority in every other facet of its design.
Knowing what I now know, I might've considered a different guitar entirely. At the least, I think I could have compromised on the custom options, saved a few notes & maybe bought a pro series (which are as good) or even a couple of second hand, less versatile axes.
I'm being cynical of course. It's an amazing guitar. Unless I could sell it for the right price or trade, I'm probably not going to be switching her out any time soon.

I don't know but I think I may have to buy one so I can see what all the "fuss" is about...lol

I've never played one myself but it's very seldom you hear a bad word about them so I would imagine people sell them because they have value and they want something else......

grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side....

yea the one thing i was wondering about the modern is upper fret access. The jackson soloist had good access to upper frets with the neck through, the modern looks like it has quite a big heel for some of those upper frets.

I'm selling mine because I have 3 of them and find myself playing the other two way more often. All are extremely well made instruments and my go to guitars.

I've never been a fan of buying a guitar without playing it first....and I notice that companies who do a lot of custom-made-to-order business often have a decent % of their product in the used market. Just a thought..

People who have money for high end guitars, always seem to want to try a new one. So they let some go if they didn't bond with it.

I only have 3 Suhr guitars.

A Standard, Modern, and classic Tele.

IMO the Suhr Tele is one of the best out there.

I would say a road trip to a place that has many Suhr guitars in stock is the best option. I went to Humbucker music for 2 of the 3 and played 10 or so of 30 some they had in stock.

You can't go wrong with Anderson quality either.

I got my Suhr Tele off here for half of new price and it was in 10 of 10 shape.

If you find a great deal on here for a used Suhr, just get it and call it a good day.

They play really well but if you're cool with a fatter neck maybe consider a G&L. I loved mine and thought it was just as good as the Suhrs I've had. That being said, their thinnest neck option is still relatively thick.

Im dragging my feet on a Luxxtone . Im afraid I love the idea of it but it won't be functional. The Joe Morris models are art pieces and Im dying to get one but fear I'd flip it.

I have never played a Suhr but the amount of them on the used market does make me scratch my head.
