We saw them earlier this year at Temecula with Lit and Fuel. Good times! I remember back in the day (80's) I saw Dean carrying 2 purple AC30s into Guitar Trader and thinking how fun that rig would be to play through.

Heroin claimed : Weiland, Staley, Cornell & Cobain. Since they're all dead id say no.

Awesome band, couldn't really get into their 2nd album but their debut was killer.

Got to see them once in 02 or 03, they played with RHCP and completely stole the show. They were awesome live.
Second album is the best !

The title’s a bit drastic.
I saw STP with Local H decades ago.
Whst an awesome concert.
Local H brought the serious heat as they just got signed on big label and opening for STP.
That was the 1st time someone modified the guitar to have the low notes, actual bass notes on a switch..go look into it, it was rad for the times.

Normally opening acts don’t go that hard.
(They can get fired).
But they were no match for Shirley Temple’s Pussy.
STP was dropping hit song hammer’s after hammer’s….dried the opening smp right up.

The raddest part of the show was before the encore STP did a few acoustic covers and originals
They brought Weiland out on an Arabian couch..
And they performed “Dancing Days”.
It was beyond dope AF.

The true magic of STP was Weiland.
Weiland was such an on point vocalist,
he sings certain key notes in the chord progressions, creating those super dope melodies anchored deep in the keys of the songs
Even those dope AF Jazz chord’s in
Interstate Lovesong.
He outlines the chords..like melodic cliff notes
to the songs..
Go listen and you’ll hear what I mean.
That guy was a AWESOME lead singer in his prime.

The only downside to them for me is the tempo’s
are sorta’, too sorta..slowish strummmy..at times
.I don’t know,
I get why Slash did not like playing their material.
I dig Sour Girl!..
-especially the day that she met me🩸
Dope ass chords & eerie serpentining riff in that one.

Robert DeLeo doesn’t get the cred he deserves. Scott was such a huge presence and Dean had the swag and killer tones so it was easy for him to sink into the background. But Robert was a huge part of the writing. Most of those cool chords Dean plays were written by Robert. I remember when playing in shitty cover bands, bass players would comment on his bass parts being sneaky hard.
That's the truth. Even Plush is tricky. And Sour Girl is ridiculous.

The OP is correct. Nothing will ever kick ass like this again.

I'm sure somebody else will continue stealing that riff...

I saw Local H opening for Filter at some shitty little club in STL. Scott was hanging out with me and my wife out front smoking. No one knew who he was. I sat next to his parents for the show. Fucking killer show. Especially for a band with just 2 guys in it.

No Doubt Weiland was bad ass in his prime. He wasn't "The Magic" though. The DeLeo brothers, particularly Robert had a lot to do with it. I mean a lot.

Had to learn the bass part for Interstate Love Song a while back for a cover band gig and somehow had never noticed before then how busy and badass the bass is in that song

Dude is a true kimg for sure

Deleos tone has always been a bit of a mystery to me. Got the Demeter preamp with deleo spec gain channels and still didn’t feel like I was capturing it. One of many times I learned the lesson - it’s not the gear it’s the player.

I feel like I remember you posting a Demeter vid in here a year or two ago and it sounded fuckin awesome

I was heavy into STP for a long time. They along with AIC helped me move out of the 80's and expand my playing and writing.

Not a popular sentiment among alot of STP fans but I love Talk Show as well. As I say to my STP friends, it's one of the best albums STP never made.

I worked at a blockbuster in the 90s/00s in Atlanta and the guy that recorded Plush or Core (or both?) came in one day. Told him I’d write off his late fees if he’d help my and get signed. He proceeded to pay his late fees and not sign my band at all haha

It was fat and juicy - totally unique sound. But it didn’t remind me of STP very much. I think a lot of it is the attitude and feel from his playing

Also their use of extended chords and slash chords is excellent
