Wont make a difference. It’s built into the amp with the filtering, PT, and dropping resistors chosen. The best way to describe it is a prestine shimmer on everything.
yeah, figured as much. Thanks man. Would still like your recommendation for 6CA7. As a metal player, I really liked the character of those tubes. I've been happy with my MTL since swapping V1, but still would like to hear if there is even more win with 6CA7.

Nope, just sarcastic lol

It’s actually the perfect compliment to the Diezel’s.

And boy is it unforgiving in the best possible way.

Every. Single. Note.

Perfectly defined.

I think it’s the most refined amp I’ve ever played. That’s the best way I can put it.
Welcome to the truth. *Breathes Heavily* You understood very fast. Enjoy tone perfection.

For current production tubes the EHX 6CA7’s are good IME. The best for metal or more aggressive sounds IME really are the Sylvania and JAN Philips ECG 6CA7’s. The GE and RCA 6CA7’s have a richer, more complex tone, but not as tight, crisp or aggressive in a metal context generally speaking

Personally though I usually find 6CA7’s, KT77’s and KT66’s to be like an awkward middle ground of EL34’s and 6L6GC’s and just prefer usually to go with one of those 2

sounds legit. I might be better off not fixing what isn't broken. :p Thanks man.

I'll be honest, when I first got the amp off a friend of a friend, I was a bit disappointed. There was this "brash/harsh" sound to the upper midrange, that bugged the shit out of me. I was ready to off it, but decided to try an RFT in V1 for the halibut. It changed the character of the midrange for me, which leads me to believe there was something wrong with the preamp tube. Since then, I couldn't imagine getting rid of it. I'm running EL34L that came in it stock, but I love 6CA7, so would be very open to trying it.
That would make sense as RFT’s are very rich and growly in the low mids and center mids and more smooth and subdued in the uppermids. RFT’s are great, especially the ‘50’s ones, but for much of those same qualities the very best to me are the old French made ECC83’s, being green letter Dario Mini Watt labeled. Maybe my favorite overall preamp tubes, at least for anything not clean

Rick would for sure discourage it LOL, but you never now. It could be what you’re looking for or not at all. Hard to predict

This thread has kind of spurned me on, I'm going to go on a little quest for some NOS pre's. What kind of prices are we talking on the Dario?

They vary. Most I’ve seen on eBay are over $100, but got all mine in the $70 ballpark. Gotta hunt around and shoot some offers, see what happens. Dario is just a label on them. It’s about I think being made in the factory in France. Others know more than me about these details. It could be other brand names on it too maybe like Belvu or others, but all mine are green letter Dario Mini Watt labeled

My favorites for metal are those French Dario’s, Tesla E83CC and silver plate triple micas made in Spain (more for lead work. The French made silver plates are great too, but the Spanish ones sing more with overtones). I really like also the Brazil made Miniwatt ECC83’s and ‘70’s Korean made 12AX7A’s. Those latter 2 are a bit lower gain, but sometimes that can also be just what you need depending on the amp/scenario
