MTL MkII 100. I owned a 100W MC, and original 100W MTL. It's exactly what I wanted the 2 together to sound like.

Badass, I love my MTL, it’s my fave of the three I own

@cragginshred did a terrific demo of his hybrid that I love to share when trying to describe the articulation and depth of the wizard sound I love so much

Too much bluesy 80s shred for a lotta the chuggmeisters here but the Wizard really shines at it imo

Sweet man. The Wizard lore sounds like cork sniffery, but once you play one, and feel it under your fingers, you get it....

That is literally my story. I just got so tired of a million people in town and on here raving about them that I gave in to my curiosity and it turned out to be one piece of gear that actually lives up to the hype 😅 (for me anyways)

yup. I went through the same thing about 15 years ago. They were already close to 4k then, and I bit the bullet. Was kind of shocked how good it felt and sounded. I made some of my favorite clips I've ever made, and lost them when musicians.org went down. I still kick myself in the ass every day for not saving that stuff locally.

The response on single notes and the thump on the chords, it’s nuts lol…I know it’s a common refrain around these parts but it’s wild how it makes you want to play more!

Sorry to hear about your clips btw, I’ve done that a few times myself and wish I had been more organized so as not to lose some of those “special moments”

yeah man, I had whole songs worked out, minus the vocals. Organization is not my strong suit, lol. My boss loves me for my troubleshooting skills, but every year I get a mention on organization. Luckily she is just as bad, so we just laugh it off.

Wizard MTL Mkii 100W 6L6 would be the model I’d order if I could. That or order the EL34 model and run 6CA7’s in it.
I'll be honest, when I first got the amp off a friend of a friend, I was a bit disappointed. There was this "brash/harsh" sound to the upper midrange, that bugged the shit out of me. I was ready to off it, but decided to try an RFT in V1 for the halibut. It changed the character of the midrange for me, which leads me to believe there was something wrong with the preamp tube. Since then, I couldn't imagine getting rid of it. I'm running EL34L that came in it stock, but I love 6CA7, so would be very open to trying it.

I know what you talk about. A downside of running insane high HT like Rick does is that it adds a clean undertone to all of your tone that can come off brash/sharp. It’s amazing in the room but hard to capture well under a mix. I’m not running insane voltages but have a brand new 525V 500mA custom ordered PT sitting in storage waiting for a rainy day project. I just don’t know if I’m ready to commit to running dumb expensive glass again like my Ecstasy needed that I just sold lol

Finally we learn the truth about your favorite blues artist!!!

I had been running 6ca7’s inmine and went back to the el 34l’s…it doesn’t need the bottom end. Sounded great at last gig.

I wonder if that was part of the problem. Can you recommend a current production 6CA7, or does that make a difference?

Wont make a difference. It’s built into the amp with the filtering, PT, and dropping resistors chosen. The best way to describe it is a prestine shimmer on everything.

Before I get too into this I’ll also edit it’s not just the poweramp but what the poweramp is doing to shift the bias of every stage in the entire amplifier if you don’t compensate for the higher HT.
