Wizard Amp Models

To me, The MC line is closer to the exact tone you want, but willl require boosts to go anywhere in the modern metal category. The HR is IMO the overall better amp, but definitely more modern and aggressive.
I have always wanted to ask this...which Wizard is the least compressed? Like if you were just looking for a nice warm organic crunch tone and then hit a boost.
The HR is rawer than the MCII and MTL, but you definitely wouldnt need a boost. If you went into the low gain input maybe? I know @braintheory likes the low input a lot

I use the low input and still don’t need any boost at all. It’s still crazy amounts of gain on tap, but imo has more clarity, more balanced, a bit less noise. I don’t use the hi input these days. The lo input helped me get to my sweet spot more easily

@Tone Monster Oh no, for sure. I never intended to try to get a one-stop solution with just the MCII.

I've been buying up all the different amps on those recordings :)

But I wanted to know if, since it's been several years and people really liked that blend, a new model (MTL, Razor etc.) did that tone more directly, since a large part of the sound was the MC.

I had a similar situation when I was buying the Diezels. I thought I wanted the VH4 for certain, but when I played the Herbert, I knew that was the sound for me. Still is my favorite amp for my style of metal.

But of course, it kept gnawing at me until I eventually bought the VH4 as well. Both very different amps, but I love both.

So without being able to test it, it sounds like the MTL or Razor would be more my kind of thing, but if I'm chasing one particular element to add to the pallet, I think the MCII might be the better buy (at least at first lol; cause we all know in 6 months, I'll be contemplating the MTL or Razor if I buy the MC now).
Herbert use to be my fave . HR is on another level to it

Hmmmmmm.

This is terrible.

Because now when I get the MCII, I have to immediately mortgage house again.
I sold my Herbert mk3 as I got the wizards…you’re literally on the exact path I was on a year ago lol

All wizards are great . Blend the mc2 with the Herbert . You will be set . Don’t need shit
Here’s my blend of Diezel and Wizard

Have you tried a mi beta? Imo they are the Herbert thing but better
The Beta is infinitely better than the Herbert MK1 and MK2 I had. Beta is kinda like a blend of a Herbert>Recto>KSR>SLO...but tighter and faster tracking with such an amazing gain structure, saturation, voicing, and wrecking ball low end. For such a modern high gain behemoth, it is still fairly warm, organic and dynamic.

I’m really glad to hear they are completely different from the Diezels. Exactly what I was hoping for.

Just picked up an MCII 100w El34 with fat kat mod.

Wizard amps and Diezels are about as opposite as high gain amps can be, yeah.

Wizards are pretty much my favorite amps, but I wouldn’t play a Diezel if you paid me. I can’t stand em.
Agreed. I tried a Herbert MK1 and two different MK2s and a Dmoll. I just couldn't gel with them. The Dmoll especially, hated that amp. I've always wanted to try a VH4 but don't think it'd be any different for me.
