Wizard guys, differences in MC vs MCII vs MTL?

Thanks Matt. I feel ya, I'm usually just looking for a particular sound, and everything gets dialed similar. They're either dialed for metal, or for my 80's fix. I'll keep that in mind about the transformers as well. What did you like more about the C? I usually gravitate towards the 100W versions of most amps. Starting to be a rabbit hole here, lol.

C's are supposedly more aggressive sounding than the Vs (per internet lore, not per Rick). I just happen to like the feel and response of the 50s better. Plus at the volumes I play at, there really was no difference between the punch/thump of my 50s compared to my KT150s. If we're talking stadium volumes, then it's tough to beat the 150s. 50w are as big sounding as most other 100w amps. My KT66 MTL can also run 6L6s, but I haven't put any in there yet to see the impact.

Hmm, that could be a problem since I love to boost amps. I like straight in too, but it needs to take a boost well for my tastes. HR is sounding awful good. Going to be fun tracking down one of them used though, I don't see many come up on the market. Off to look at more clips. Thanks man!
I like boosts a lot too (I have tons of them lol including a real Klon), the HR just doesn’t need it at all imo, but I’m guessing it could get some good sounds with it if dialed well enough around it. It’s one of my top 4 or 5 favorite high gain amps. I’m guessing they don’t come up much since guys don’t wanna sell them. I’ve only seen earlier 50w versions (I heard they’re a bit smoother, but haven’t tried them) and 6v6 versions of it come up so far

I haven’t tried a 50w Wizard yet, would like to, but I had a 1996 MC 100 EL34 with C transformers and didn’t find it any more aggressive than the 2016 MTL 100 EL34 I had with V tranny’s. I much preferred that MTL, but the MC got along easier with boosts

I'm a junkie about them too, but no Klon!

From everyone's description, it doesn't sound like it wants or needs one. I think I need to re-think my game plan, lol

Thanks bud, my MC was no slouch in the volume department, so I can relate. Luckily these days, I have a room setup inside the house with 4 outside walls as well, so it works really well for soundproofing with that air gap. I've tried cranking an amp and had my buddy go outside. You can only hear it when you're at my front door, and I can be shaking the plaster off. :m17:

I loved my 2016 MTL. Had it the longest. Also a 100w 6L6. I sold both after getting my 2023 KT66 60w. I don't necessarily buy into the internet lore about C being more aggressive either. I do believe he's made various tweaks throughout the years and they can sound a little different in terms of the characteristics of the mids. I really didn't like my first mk2 from 2020, and my 22 KT150 sounded better than my 2019. Same for various years of MC2s I've had.

With the onboard boost pushed and gain low, around 9-10 o’clock, the MTL kills with a boost.
