Rockin Chippy has been hoarding Cameron amps like toilet paper.

Fuck paying an insane price for one of hear amps. Get a jcm800 with some pedals and you can get that tone all fucking day long for a 10th of the price.

I love the JCM800 with a pedal tone, but it’s not near the CCV...if it were I would have cashed out long ago.

Agreed Dave ,

Lots of differences that you cannot really achieve with a pedal. Mainly the high voltage, filtering setup , ground scheme, some other stuff that adds up to the bigger picture. I do love a great 800 or jmp with a boost though , but its just not the same and not as versatile... sorry !

I hope to get one someday. I have the cash, but always come late when one pops up in the classifieds.

How much cash do you have? :D

I’m pretty sure my CCV goes to the grave with me.

Come on man. The ccv and stock 800 in James’s video and close just as it is. You can’t tell me that they couldn’t be made to sound indistinguishable with and od and eq pedal in front.

I have a CCV and have to admit, the CCVs and the last JCM 800 sounded almost the same.
If It was a blind test, I would get lost.

I’ve had an early 80’s JCM800 2203 and other older Marshall’s side by side with my ccv and they sound very different from each other. I actually would choose the Marshall’s if I could only have one, but it’s apples and oranges

If you want organic, raw and aggressive growl, go Marshall. If you want tight, modern, robust, smooth and compressed then go ccv. That’s why I have both

Guys , let's get serious here , Cameron ccv is basically a Jose style type of mod with twists, sorta like the best golden modded Marshall circuit setup but on steroids.

the ccv has high plate voltage approx 560 on plates and screens , a little more filtering, elevated ac heaters to quiet it down a bit , some other little tricks like a good ground scheme and so on, there is more.

For me the CCV wipes the floor with any jcm 800 I've ever heard or played. I've owned prob 10 + of them and worked on even more then that. No comparing the two man, not in real life I'm sorry...

Don't get me wrong I dig a stock jcm 800 with a great boost. But we are talking apples and oranges here.

I've owned both , played both extensively in real life and person and know what makes them tick from soup to nuts as well.

Cheers !

I have a couple CCV's, and an all original 1983 JCM 800, and a 1980 JMP. The CCV is totally different than either, with or without a boost. Not even close.

Lugo's clip above is a good example of how very different sounding amps can sound similar when you put a mic on the speaker and put it in a mix. We've all played a stock JCM800 and it doesn't sound or feel "high gain" at all. Silly comparison imo.

Next time someone has an amp fest I’ll bring my 800 and we’ll do a blind test.

Please make it triple blind...with 2 CCVs ( a Brad and a Mark).

Agreed. ALL of the amps sound the same....and I'm certain they do not in the room.

Goes to show how a PA or sound engineer can make a break a recording or live performance and how biased their ear can me in mixing it to achieve the same sound.

Really, you want to do a "Shoot Out", you want all amps DRY and set the levels....that's it, because the rest is the amp(s) and anything else is disingenuous imo!

This is why I cannot stand Rockin Chippy clips. Doesn't matter is it's a JCM800, Cameron, Diezel, or Fender. Every fucking clip sounds the same!

Exactly !

We already did a triple check , at Lugo’s. I have the orange CCV and it was virtually identical to Superunknown’s ( widely considered stellar sounding) in the room. The tones were crushing to say the least .....
