I have a couple CCV's, and an all original 1983 JCM 800, and a 1980 JMP. The CCV is totally different than either, with or without a boost. Not even close.
Lugo's clip above is a good example of how very different sounding amps can sound similar when you put a mic on the speaker and put it in a mix. We've all played a stock JCM800 and it doesn't sound or feel "high gain" at all. Silly comparison imo.
I said I can make an 800 with pedals sound like a ccv. Not a stock 800 by itself.

Does it matter? My point was why spend $8000 on an amp when you can spend far far less and get the same sound or at least 99% there?

Don’t get me wrong. The ccv is an amazing amp it’s just not worth the hyped prices as of late.

It matters to me. If I can get my 1980 JMP to sound 99% there, I’ll cash out of the CCV. So far I’ve tried tons of different pedals and I can’t get close.

well what I call close and what you call close might be very different. Only thing I have to go by is other people’s recordings and videos. I’ve never had one in the same room as me. All I do is record and mix stuff and like said above all amps sound identical in a mix.

This is how I feel. I joined this forum a long time ago to monitor the classifieds for a Cameron modded Marshall. I finished graduate school in EE and started building my own. At least I know I’ll get what I paid for and can repair it without hardened epoxy.

The Cameron amps are a secret handshake group with a Cameron tax to join the club. I don’t even want one anymore nor care to look.

They are cool amps, but just amps at the end of the day. If the hot rodded modern rock thing is what your looking for without straying too far from classic characteristics (Marshall) you’ll love it. They aren’t as left field or it’s own world as say...a Bogner XTC, a classic Mesa Mark (the cascading gain huge midrange kind!), or the Diezel stuff. Am I saying one is better than the other? No, but in a room with a million amps you could disinguish a Bogner, a Diezel, and a vintage Mark, where the Cameron, to me, could be close to quite a few other amps. Perhaps a better version, but the signature sound is much more in your familiarity with it than anything. However, tone is all subjective and I could be very wrong to plenty, and that’s awesome.

None of this is meant to downplay them. They are wicked cool amps. To be clear, some of the beat feeling amps out there. Instantly they feel ‘right’, and, to me, have a certain Boogie character in there somewhere that I love.

I guess what I’m trying to say is if you like the Marshall thing in a bit rodded or badass way, they could be some of the best. If you aren’t into that type of thing they may not do anything for you.

Nice playing. A long ago description of a Cameron modded Marshall was a hot rodded Marshall with a splash of Mesa DNA in it. No matter if it was a Jose, or Aldrich. The chewiness and feel are unique IMO.
Shea's Monomyth mods are the closest that I've found. I've played an example of most every Marshall modder out there, as far as the well known guys.

I joined this forum for the same reason after seeing a Cameron CCV for sale at Ebay for US$4.200 and I tried to figure which kind amp was it.
I ended being one of the 14 who lost money (US$2.700) to Mark Cameron...
I wish I had never found that classified.

PS: I own a Cameron CCV from Steve K (RIP my friend), but today I would look for a Wizard MCII or even a Mezzabarba.

Yea, agreed. It has a cool Old school Boogie grind to it, very strong amps. More Hotrod Marshall than anything, but unique. Really cool amps overall.

Ocean! Super cool amp. Had a cool bounce and give but was clean enough to still respond with a tightness. Nice bark and a smooth content for these types of amps. That clip I just posted was with a 212 Diezel cab with a little Reverb in the loop and no other pedals.

Wizard amps are killer for sure! Awesome feel. I dug the Mezzabarba too, but it reminded me of a SLO with less give and a more neutral/balanced tone. I would take the SLO! I think...?

jmp marshall and a mark series boogie with two separate cabs that`s it for cheaper
