Zuul vs Endless blockade

We don't necessarily support/hate Lone Wolf or Fortin.
I personally feel having Joe/Lone Wolf as a moderator is a conflict of interest as far as the group is concerned and allows him to try to sell his stuff whenever he sees mention of other pedal brands but it's hard to deny some of his stuff is rad. Fortin as of lately, yes, we mostly have issues with given the business practice/stance Mikes taken with John Knights Sigil and the issues it's having. However, in that video, the Endless Blockade definitely doesn't suck any tone and lets shit shine through more than the Zuul. Good comparison for sure!

Regarding the pedal, no contest. The sustain showcase is what makes the Endless Blockade a clear winner to me.

Regarding the group, that's just how it came across to me as a newer member. The only reason I mentioned it was as a disclosure considering all of the past Fortin drama on this board.

One thing I know for sure from looking at that video is the endless blockade is bigger than it needs to be and ugly as fuck

It's like dude made 0 attempt to make it look cool

Lol you need at least triple the enclosure space to fit all of the magic dust.

It is big....and ugly....and very expensive.....but it beats the zuul in my opinion which was kinda labeled the best on the market by many.

100% agree with that and I've been in the group since like pre 500 members or so and it's only really a recent thing were we've all opened our eyes towards Fortin and the bullshit. Hell when the Zuul came out, everyone on there was sucking it off haha. Had to have it! Now everyone hates it haha!

I asked Joe about shrinking down the size for the blockade and he has no interest and I also asked about just creating a gate without the range and shift knobs as well and same response. I think if he made just a gate to compete with the Zuul, he'd crush it.

Quade, how expensive is we talkin?
$287 to your door via Reverb from the builder. The zuul is like $242.

To me if you are going to pass the $200 mark on a noise gate its worth the extra $45. But the real estate will probably play a factor for some.

What's hilarious is they are probably the same damn circuit with a couple of the input parameters on pots for the Lone Wolf...

I bought a used Endless Blockade from a member of rig-talk some monthes ago. It is absolutely great ! No tone suck, great headroom (I use it at line level) and perfect sustaining decay without any artefacts. Best noise gate I've ever used, aside from studio rack gear like Drawmer etc. I plan to buy a mini Fortin Zuul for a small board. I'll compare both ASAP.

Idle speculation on my part but there are only so many chipsets to build a gate on and it seems like a whole boatload of gates popped up after Fortin demonstrated there was money to be made

JFC

Decimator 2 is good enough for me

though last time I wanted to use mine I couldn't fucking find it :aww:

It's nice to hear a comparison between these two as I've been very curious about The Endless Blockade. The Endless Blockade handles the long sustain very nicely, but I have to say for a good portion of the video the Zuul was set too high when using the key input. I knew the Zuul wasn't going to perform as well once its threshold was getting dialed up.

There is also a noticeable tonal difference as well - the tone when playing through the Zuul is more crisp and clear and the Endless Blockade is darker. I own a Zuul and to my ears it brightens the tone a bit, which I wish it didn't. I've never played an Endless Blockade, so I can't comment on what it does or doesn't do to the original tone, but I actually prefer the tone with the Zuul here.

A friend of mine advised me to not get an Endless Blockade, but I fell for the hype. I sold it within a few days. The tone suck was really noticeable.

The Endless Blockade sucks the tone a bit more compared to the Zuul but will let you control the decay a bit better. I had them all at some point, the best for me now is The Key And Gate from Lichtlaerm Audio. It's like the Zuul but with a pass thru and envelope filter instead of a preset chip to tracking the signal.

I never tried the Key and Gate. I use a Phalanx... I thought it sounded better than the Zuul. Plus I had mine built with a ground lift for the key/through input to eliminate ground noises.

Yep, that one is nice also. Jordan is great to deal with. To be honest i didn't saw much difference between the Zuul and Phalanx beside the pass-thru, so i sold the Phalanx. Too many gates, had to thin the herd at some point.

Yeah fair point about the tone differences. To me all gates add a little hair or whatever so my biggest caveat is legato/sustain.

What's a gate? Asks the Boogie owner! No boost or gate needed for extreme useable gain. I haven't heard hiss in years.
