I'm gonna risk to sound like a moron, but what difference does it make for you?

good question nbarts ;)

but the sound is awesome, i really like it because the heavyness comes through the whole band not just from the guitars.

the guitar sound is kinda old school, sparse gainy but with a modern touch, i could imagine that this has been the vh-4.

the fact is that neither on mission-metallica nor on the offic. forum or interviews theyve said anything about the amps while rec.

i just know that james has been using his krankensteins for the last months. there are pics from the recordings where he nearly tries every amp you could imagine but i personally think that he went with the krank in mix with the diezel.

its the worst sounding record they have. but that has nothing to do with the amps.
i think the guitar tone on st anger is light years more interesting and better sounding than on this record.

I have had the record for a few weeks now. Het's tone is pretty dry and somewhat undergained/undersaturated when compared to many previous recordings. It's very clear and tight, and the alternate picking and gallops track very well. He also is using more upper mids than I have heard in his tone some time. What I DO NOT hear is any of his signature scooped Mesa sound...or any of the Wizard heads that were used with regularity on Load, Re-Load and Garage Inc.

The majority of his tone sounds like the Diezel VH4 on channel 3 with the gain set around 1:00 to 1:30. I also hear a little bit of sizzle in the high top...probably a Krank, rounding out the reaming 25% or so of his sound.

Just my thoughts.

the allover sound of the record is horrible, shitloads of clipping and distortion.

but youcan hear the VH4 out of the mix pretty well, at least if you are a Diezel user and used to the trademark sound. theese are the good moments on this record. :D

i really dont know which version you must have heard to say it sounds bad.

its the greatest sound they ever heard.by far.

as is said the complete band sounds heavy, not just the guitars ,its one big unit.

@ fattbag: amd really sure that is where diezel and krank. and be sure that kirk DIDNT use his randall. especially for lead sections he surely used some old kranked up vintage amps.as is his jmp.

FACT IS THAT NO ONE CAN TELL. but im pretty sure that its been a vh4-krankenstein mix.

and again, imo the record sounds great, the best and organic sound they ve had, i can hear no clipping or such things, you must have pretty shitty versions.

i heard the real album on CD already yesterday, and my ears heard clipping. i dont think that there are different versions of the album. ;)

the EQ of my sound system is set very well balanced, and i never turn the volume on more than 9:00 o clock, but i had to turn it back yesterday because there were many level-peaks, making harsh-fizzling noise.

wow I thought just the leaked versions have clipping. IMO I like the tone, but mainly the riffs. IMO All Nightmare long is the best track. I think people need to realize that it is not the 80's anymore and they are a totally different band, love em or hate em.....I of course still love em.

They probably used tones of amps for the one overall tone like they always do.

His live rig, Monty sent me pix is the same but now Mesa 2:90's and not the Strategy 400's. So he blends the Vh4 with the traxis' and the 2:90's I have been loving the live tones from the recent shows. Just my onions

i 100% agree with Sean

then, i add, you couldn't and mustn't play the "same song" forever...people grew...interests change, gear change
there's the right moment for everything

personally i found the new album a good job, very funny to hear and play, intense, fresh...ba bla blah
i don't think it's a - old school - playng or sounding album .. it's really actual sounding IMO

and yes some songs has a clipping noises or bad confusion noise here and there...i guess it's the recording or the compression of the mp3s...(the 12 i'll buy the official album )

Mission Metallica members just got their code, so I downloaded it and it is at 320. Sounds great so far masterin wise etc.

yeah people are so stuck in the 80's and want MOP Part II. I would never want to keep doing the same thing over and over and over. I also hate the term "Metal" I don't consider them a "Metal" band. They are a band doing what THEY want to do. AS Gene Simmons always says     when people rag on him or what he does.......is ask "ok, thank you, what have you done to qualify you to say what I should or should not do? "      No offense to Slayer fans, but are not all their albums kinda the same still to this day? Just assuming as I have not listened to them since South of heaven. :)

i'd like to build an amp sound knowledge :P
plus i like to ask myself any question, i like to learn something new every day :)
today i need this

what a pity i don't hear the Herbert on the abum !!! it :D would be a piece of cake

Sean, I'm a club memember and obviously a missionmetallica platinum member too, and I haven't gotten any code to download the 320 version....where is it?

I can hear the stream but I can't download anything.

by the way, the stream doesn't clip.

for me it's not really clippings..it's like the equalization for an unwanted reason goes to the red line ( too much instruments presence, too much music put ) and the result is a confused mess...
this in some part of the songs.
