until I just watched these vids from Rockpalast...Singing has more push, less Mayerisms   and the guitar playing is more fiery and less the mellow attack approach I always seem to hear from him. Plus this band lineup is the bomb. I can see why people were bummed the bass player is no longer around.

magic on a Strat here

I wish he sounded and played like this in BCC.

Awesome show and he is still one hell of a guitarist!!!

Half of the rock stars over on TGP really do think he sucks. What a bunch of idiots.

Really? How can someone say that? Are they truly idiots? They must be!!

His "New Day Yesterday: Live" disc is just wicked good. I do enjoy where he has taken his playing now though.

I think his playing is amazing...I just wish he wouldn't sing.

That DVD has Joe bringing it. One of my favorites. The bass player is great. He needs to go back to this style of music but that ain't happening. Last few discs just get boring as hell.

I thought his Strat tone was so much better than his current LP tone, just sayin'....

definitely awesome and fiery,

But I prefer his more restrained approach, songwriting and image much better now..

I didn't like Joe B. until he hooked up with Kevin Shirley and changed his approach.. obviously it's working out for him..and I like the Les paul tone much better but you can't knock this older show..it's amazing..

This Rockpalast show is new to me. Im a Bonamassa noob relatively speaking.....and I've gotta say I prefer this tone here to his sound now. More top end and not as dull sounding, as he himself describes it now. This bass player is a badass too.

"Live at Rockpalast" and "A New Day Yesterday Live" are my two favorite live albums. "Blues Deluxe" and "Had To Cry Today" are my two favorite studio albums. "You and Me" was produced by Shirley and also is a good album, but each album after has become less interesting to me with only a few tracks on each that I really like.

I still can't figure out how he gets that violin-like attack/sustain (as if the guitar is bowed) (is that the right term ?)

The volume swells?

You've got to work on it a while and then it becomes 2nd nature. It's simple and very effective. I do it all the time between vocal lines.
It's also much easier to do on a Stratocaster because of the volume knob placement.

Thanks but I don't think that's what I hear. I said attack but actually it's a lack of attack. In the first video listen from 1.10 min roughly.....

Sounded and looked like he pulled off that note.
