Soldano Going Out of Business

According to guys in the know over at tgp there are 4500 SLO's out there.
    Those guys over there saying that are ridiculous..they are just pulling numbers out of their arses.

The SLO has been out for roughly 30 years..not exactly a insignificant amount of time..who knows how many have been destroyed by hurricanes, tornadoes, floods or some type of water damage, fires, earthquakes, car wrecks, and (insert) any other way you can think of to destroy a amplifier.

The total still left will never be known.

I do think that if no more are made they will creep up in price..the next ebay auction on one of these could be interesting.

Doubt it. Their serial number system is simple: first two digits=year made, other digits=sequential unit number.

"The only amps which can be directly dated from the serial number are the SLO100 and SM 100 and those X88’s which have the serial number stamped into the chassis (most of them). On these amps and preamps the first two digits are the year of manufacture and the other numbers are an actual serial number. So the first SLO 100 was 86001. Only five SLO’s were built in 86." - Bill Sundt

If you do a little Googling you can get a nice sample set of SLO serials, and consequently their year of manufacture and unit number.

1987 - #6
1988 - #46
1990 - #397
1991 - #639
1993 - #1076
1997 - #1239
1999 - #1342
2007 - #1966
2011 - #2170
2013 - #2308
2016 - #2378

This is good information. I had new builds in 2017 and 2018. The 2017 is #2410 and early 2018 is #2420. Both have the loop / MV mod from the factory.

I really want a Avenger.
When we did amp fest years ago the Soldano amps were easy some of the best if not the best sounding amps in the room. I never realized how few of amps he built.
