Yeah, 1989 no DSLs lol; and 2000 the engineer was/is a good friend and no, he recorded my ADA mini rack.

Honestly, I wont agree to record a band if they aren't "on board" with me guiding the guitar sounds, it's literally the only production thing I'm great at/known for

But part of that is, if a guy brings in his amp, and it sounds good, I can work with it and make it work - I've done this in the past with some local punk bands and their oranges (all the versions of the terror are super popular in the punk scene locally) even though i'm not a super expert at getting tones out of them

And most of the other engineers I know are like this too

So as long as you brought something nice into the studio, I don't doubt for a second he thought he could make it work :dunno:

Also most of the "house amps" for reamping or whatever for most of the local guys aren't DSLs, it's generally rack stuff - salvation modules (especially the bogner one which is very good sounding), a 3+, a demeter, etc

Don't get me wrong I like DSLs, but those are much more "the amps the band brings in" then "the tried and true stuff the engineers reamp the retarded local guitarist with"

5150 or dual rec the amp every studio has and uses on everything lol.

guitars are easy for the most part, drums though is a different story.. i now understand why so many studios would demand bands use their house kit now that ive started recording myself... i think back to some of my friends and their god awful kits tuned to sound like dog shit splatting on the ground demanding they use that, i can only imagine being the engineer having to deal :ROFLMAO:

Sounds a lot like TAPP, amirite?
And I def hear the Fryette similarity, too.

Many studios also try to get you to use their guitar amp or DI device. It's because most engineers are useless, lazy ass bitches, not cause their house set it worth a damn.

well, as im sure other studios have ive spent literally years tuning my kit, getting the right mics in the right spot where theres no phase issues or weird shit happening, i have my template in my DAW setup with my compressors and gates and all that ready to go.. for some idiot drummer, which lets be real is most all of them, to come in with their line6 pod level drum kit and demand you tear your proven setup apart to use that... its just not fun... and why i never really wanted to do this for a living :ROFLMAO:

The MC and MTL are both fantastic amps, I own a 6L6 100w that absolutely crushes and loves external boosts - very dynamic. The MTL might be a bit easier to play as it's got more saturation - but they're both so fun to play.

Yeah it's because they want to get paid the maximum amount for the minimum amount of effort just like any normal job tbh

The problems especially start when the engineer is attempting to record a genre he's not super interested or invested in

Then he wants you to use his hot rod deluxe or DI because not only is he lazy, but he doesn't have any idea what to do

Drums are a sticky issue, because most of the time drummers kits are complete garbage, kept together with paperclips and duct tape. The studio's crappy pearl export kit is generally in tune and in better condition.

I've heard demos that were obviously done by people like this and dude it irked me like you wouldn't believe. A few years back a producer friend of mine texted me something like "dude listen to this and, uh... tell me what you think. Local new bright-eyed metal band got one of their uncles to produce a few demo tracks for them. The uncle does country most of the time."

It was exactly like you'd expect. Mixed like the worst parts of radio and karaoke music. The band was obviously all about riffs and rhythms but mix had vocals 10x louder than everything else and completely dry, and there may have even been like a side chain compressor on them so the rest of the music actually dipped down when the guy sang hard, so they were clearly emphasized over everything else, while the drums and bass sounded flat and dull, but the kicker was that guitars were barely audible, set WAY in the background, and they were fizzy and thin too. The whole thing sounded like microwaved ass and the guy charged full price for it.

Basically, there's nothing like hearing exactly how things shouldn't be done to make you understand why doing them right is so important.

Ok sorry, I'll get off my soapbox in the kickass Wizard clips thread. :D

Hey guys, so I tried @Beyond Black settings seeing how it’d come out. I think @braintheory sets his up fairly similar as well kicking the presence way up and bright down. Can correct me if I’m wrong, just saw the picture with your amp and his together.

Anyway here… turn volume up for best results

For comparison to a presence and bright both at 6ish here’s this… it’s the second one that’s the mtl

Really dig setting it up how they have it!

The settings in BeyondBlack’s pic are his. I set mine a bit differently. The clips sound good. The sound I get with mine is more like your second clip. I have the presence dimed and I think bright around 6-ish iirc. Not sure how the KT150 and KT66 would compare

i dont know man, you're a really good player with a ton of cool amps with clips i think sound great, so dont think im knocking you in any way, and i hate to always be the only one bashing wizards, but just keeping it 100 as i hope and expect everyone would with me when i post clips.. both these sounds terrible :dunno: both are loose, raggidy, bloated, muffled and i just dont know. i know now ill get the same responses and probably some PM's like i always do from wizards owners attacking me for my opinions, but the whole wizard thing is something i just dont understand

I see chugg openly not like wizard here. It in signature when I read his threads. And now I see you not like wizard. Maybe others?

Wizard no magic like spell

Finally got around to doing this, wanted to dial them similarly to show if one can do the other. Ironically they were both pretty close to dialed in this way even before the shootout. We definitely all gravitate towards our tone no matter what. I used GGD contender series here as we have a baby in the house. Used my st rock react ir for it, best load box out there IMO. If I recorded a micd clip vs these I really doubt anyone here would be able to tell the difference. Anyway, here you go.

There is a time stamp for when I boost it.

I’ll add, because unfortunately I need to every single time… I play metal. If you don’t cool.

Here is a double track file as well so it gives an even more honest representation that you’d hear. These are boosted here with an OD808. First is MC, then MTL. If it doesn’t play click the arrow and it’ll open up the drive page.

I honest was thinking try wizard. But to get here very expensive to me.

And this not sound good compare to other amplifiers I already own. For way less expensive.

Thank for compare and help me decide to not buy these amplifier.🙏

Both clips sound great, Bram! Glad you liked the settings. I usually have the presence on the MTL around 3 o’clock at the very least. I tend to ride presence higher and treble lower on most amps for the extra aggression. If I want a rounder, sweeter tone I’ll go the opposite direction.

That’s because his SLX lays waste to everything and he’s likely never played a Wizard.

Glad you were able to get all the audio info that you need concerning Wizards from that clip.
You dodged a $5000 bullet, Stosh. 👍🏻

To fairly be, I must now admit if I judge from OP clips I will likely not want to play wizard also. It sound unpleasant plus undefined.

But
I also have close friend who got wizard. He have herbert and sherlock. The wizard sound thin to them. He got rid of wizard.

Listen for you my friend.
I also have SLX.

It is super marshall.

Be careful my friend. 🧐
