Update with double track on a Google drive file here… hi pass on and that’s it. Double tracking ALWAYS makes a world of difference.

First is MC, second MTL.

If doesn’t play, click the arrow and it’ll open up the drive page.

these just have the same characteristics ive been saying for years about wizards, they are open with a kind of drier and gritty gain structure with that rolled off top end thing... the MC here to me is just sounds bland and characterless.. the MTL does sound better, but still nothing very exciting and nothing i cant get with any other run of the mill amp, and to me thats not a good thing when both of these are $4.5k used on reverb right now if i wanted to get one. i know they are works of art build wise with the best parts which has to do with the price, but tone is tone..

then i listen this.. thick, complex and oozing with 3D richness with that sinister searing top end that will have little kids hiding in the corner scared, dosent sound like really any other amp ive heard.. im impressed with this thing.... but wait, i shouldnt judge by clips :p

That was a fun tone to make! Most ridiculous gained out scooped I could do with it. One of my favorite amps.

This is a really good amp also. I recommend you try it.

I play mostly metal too and would take the iic+ over any iii I’ve tried 11/10 times and I still think the iii’s are great amps, just to me not needed at all with a iic+. For me it’s about the details in sound
Yep. For me it's all about the clarity, feel, thump...if those things are better with amp A, vs B, I'm gonna choose amp A every time...no matter what style I play.

This clip doesn't do much for me at all

There's not enough/any transient coming through, to the point where it sounds a lot like a vh140c or Randall warhead or century to me . .which in itself is a cool tone, just not a 3k tube amp sound.

I'll reserve final judgement until I play one in person, but I'd take a Helios (esp the eclipse) over the Uber ultra all day every day based on the clips

I can get a usable sound out of any of these amps of course, just like I can get a usable sound out of basically anything

But I hope that clip isn't representative because it paints the amp as kind of retro 90s thing

Those are probably universal qualities for most here and specific areas that clip don't show as well. For me the most important parts are the complexity in tone, how well notes connect and the quality of the growl, but a lot of that also hugely shapes the feel. That's where the C+ really pulls far ahead of the III's and IV's that capture the overall flavor, but not what actually makes the amp special

For "clarity, feel, thump" the Hell Razor definitely ranks as one of the best I've tried, but if the clip doesn't show it and just shows the overall tonal profile of it being hollow or neutral I understand why guys who haven't tried one may be let down. I'd imagine a Roland Cube or Vox AD version of a Wizard would also be pretty awful

I totally agree and can see what you mean on this one. I don't mean to keep ripping on it, but I was not a fan of the Uber Ultra I had. In person I will say it was really punchy/powerful/sounded high plate voltage and had the overall Uber flavor that I love, BUT it was very filtered/clinical/cardboard-y sounding, a bit synthetic for my taste and the notes did not connect well at all despite how gain-y, saturated and compressed it was capable of being. It was like they kept the overall Uber flavor/extract, but sucked out what I loved about my Rev 1 Uber

Totally apples and oranges, but I do think at least in quality of tone, being rich, raw, organic, notes connecting well, the Helios was a light years better amp (nowhere near as big sounding though)

I can see the '90's thing partly from it being dialed in so scooped. I interpreted the sound in person as being very very modern like an Omega, Driftwood or KSR. I can see a polyphia-esque band maybe using those amps lol

That clip wasn't as good to me. I liked what I think he was going for (scooped metal sound), but it sounded way too filtered and the palm mutes sounded washed out with a weird cocked wah aftertaste sort of. The 1st 2 version Uber's are much better for that imho

Just a thought, but it may also be that for the riffs in your clips I recall I wouldn't myself have Wizard's or SLO's as my first choices either. The Recto's would be one of my first choices, makes sense why it's your favorite (one of mine too) and a few others that would probably rank among my top picks would be a Rev 1 Uber, Blueface VH4, Friedman Marsha and Bogner modded Marshall. Not common amps of course, but I have a feeling they'd be up your alley

That was me absolutely fucking around trying to get the most ridiculous sounding 90s death metal shit out of it lol.

These amps were made to be played plugged straight in.
Lets smear some shit on it by putting a boost in front of it..
Fuck you, you suck. Fight me!

You suck boys want the flat, mushed gain level of a Modellor. Just go there already..
In a few more years AI will play the guitar for you..

I played a helios and uber back to back. Uber is one of the best amps i have ever played. Helios was forgettable

There is a lot of anger in this thread. Wish we had like a cage for R-T disagreements and debaucheryView attachment 329514

well, like the vh140c, this clip has its own thing going to my ears that you arent gonna mistake it for a Marshall/recto/5150, it sounds "fresh" to me is maybe what i find appealing.

You fuckers will brag about going to a 4 Star Steak House when you ordered a fuckin Hamburger with A1 Steak Sauce..

Yeah, fuck up that high dollar Amp with a Buzz Box.. METAL.. :jerkit:

FIGHT!

I love bombastic opinions like this and pretty much agree based on aggro merit alone. Man, I haven't had a real steak in like ten years. We just cut up roasts and use imitation A-1 cuz we po'. Real A-1 is for rich people my wife says. 'That ain't us, baby" LOL

Aren't most of the guys here playing Ratt/Poison/Kokken riffs anyways?? Does one need "harmonic content" Bloom" "3d characteristics" (whatever the fukk these descriptions mean) for this stuff 😂

im not sure i understand some of the technical terms you use, filtered to me is how to describe the rolled off and dull top end i hear in wizards, and cocked wah would be the uncompressed and hollow thing i hear going on in the mids, neither of which i hear in the uber. washed out palm mutes to me sounds like the compression and "chung" metal guys want. whatever the terms, the UU to me at least has a unique vibe that is way more interesting and something I would like to give a go with some of my different guitars and cabs and see what I can come up with, the wizards sound like a “generic rock” setting in an axe or something
