The Rise of youtube musician channels

I have been around the forums since Harmony Central around 1996.

... and people talk to me like I dont know gear, lol.
Sometimes it's arrogance and jealousy.

I have alot of gear and as soon as I start talking about it, people seem to almost not believe me. I always end proving them wrong with videos and stuff buy still, it's like nobody treasures experience anymore.

All the Gen Alpha kids that have never experienced playing through anything analog, lol.

Clickbait title that hasn't been mentioned yet:

"This Changes EVERYTHING"
"GAME CHANGER".

I usually don't have an issue however, I have learned over the years that YouTube has never been a great representation of how guitars, amps, pedals actually sound. There's so much post mastering bullshit going on that the integrity of sound is literally altered. So for example, when you get a guitar you saw on a YouTube demo, even though you have the same amp, and pedals, the tone isn't going to sound similar.

One of the most disingenuous displays of master-click-bating on such Youtube channels is when some of these content creators make videos with pseudo existential crisis themes such as "we need to talk", as you pointed out, or "is this the end of my channel" and "contemplating selling EVERYTHING", etc. Then the next time it's back to business, shilling as usual with no follow up, action or even mention of the previous week's "life altering decisions".
Exactly.. we all know they don't have a day job. They aren't selling $hit.

What I can't stand are the guys who are intermediate players at best giving advice and doing reviews of gear. Awesome! Next I am going to go watch a green belt do martial arts videos.
well, in my martial art, it's only white, obviously, then green and black. There could be a green belt that's been training 6 years and is very good demonstrating stuff. However, I get the point you were making, and it absolutely fits the context here.

There's a handful of youtubers who are stand out players, and their videos constantly inspire me to practice more, or revisit aspects of playing that I've been slacking on.

Unfortunately the more I watch their videos, the more my feed gets filled with guitar-related clickbait garbage.

I don’t normally watch any of the gear type vids…and the ones that take the first five mins asking to subscribe, ring the bell, support my patreon etc, ugh. Ive had a channel forever, all I use it for is dumping some old band vids, goofing off and drag racing / car stuff to share with some friends. Most the time I just watch old bowling and some car stuff.

YouTube has become such a big player in terms of on-screen content and there are so many eyes on it there is money to be made. Even if their not selling anything, people will donate for the cause to support the channel.

The clickbait titles work until they dont, they might draw you in but the content has to keep you there. When the James Webb Space Telescope first started releasing images they would use all the cliche clickbait ’this changes everything’ and ‘we were wrong about everything’ and it works once or twice then you don’t click.

There is also the ‘they lied to us about everything…for 5000 years!’

I wish I could remember/find the the video & it might have been one of the guys here that did it. They started off with 'Someone asked me to do a video review of this amp so here it is. Like, subscribe, I don't give a shit.'

Drives me crazy too. But, I get why they do it… most of the guys that do that kind of stuff do YouTube for their main income. So someone sets off the algorithm and unless you follow along the algorithm pushes you away. Then they don’t make money. It’s stupid this is how things are now.

One thing that’s interesting is how many people legitimately look up to some of the guitarists. Like fluff, Rabea, etc… trips me out these guys getting plugins and stuff, and they actually sell well… I couldn’t tell you one song they’ve written. People love the YouTuber thing.

I sound like a fuckin boomer.
So glad “fuckin’ X’r” doesn’t role of the tongue.
