EVH 5150III Stealth 100S - Euge

The EVH 5150 III 100 EL34 has my attention, but so does a Splawn Quick Rod 100 EL34. Both are about the same price.

Then again, I have modded Marshall covered with my JVM410H and Engl Artist Edition 100 E561, and SL-X.

I was going to check out a used 5150 III Stealth 50W, but was told that 100W is different?

No place here to try / compare 5150 III and Quick Rod. I really don't want to buy something with more gain than I need or that's close to what I already have.

The E651 gets more gain than I use, as does my JP-2C which is smoother vs Marshalls.

My incoming FM9 has both 5150 and Splawn models, so I'll see how they sound vs each other, and what I already have.
I've owned a 2005 QuicklRod, 50w Stealth and now a 100w Stealth. The QR is more of a hot-rodded Marshall. The 5150 IIIS is its own thing. There is definitely a tonal difference in the 50 vs the 100. The 100 sounds massive. The 50 is kinda boxy sounding to me. I also appreciate having tone controls for all three channels. As the settings that sound best for the green channel aren't what sound best for the blue channel. With the 100 you have a true three channel amp. With the 50 you have to decide if you want two gain channels or a clean and a high gain channel. I like having all three. I also like that the 100 has a resonance control for each channel. As far as the head being "huge".... It's not really that different than a 100-watt Marshall head.

I love my 100S. It's my favorite all time amp to date. I've had the 50 watt Stealth and have a standard 50 watt 6l6 just because it's easier to move around, but it's not even close. The 100S sounds as big as it is, physically lol. Perfect metal amp, IMO.
