In the 80's there were more than Metallica and Whitesnake fans using this amp. IMO, it blows away the JP2C. The versatility alone.
I'm sure all the YT chug-meisters will have at it, but I heard a wide range of usability, from clean, blues, hard rock. That's what I remember about the amp in the 80's. It was good for a wide range of styles.
You CANNOT find most of those lower gain tones in the JP2C (owned one) and I like this better than my MK VII.
With all the incarnations of the 2C+, I always felt there was something missing without the Pull-Pots.
Who the hell cares about lower gain 😁

Not a single metal riff to be had in the whole video = FALE !!!!
Yeah, when the Fail = epic = FALE!!!!

Is he using IRs? Great player who can really play but the recorded crunch/disto sounds like my old GT8 direct output. Very granular and somewhat scratchy (for lack of better words), it doesn't feel natural.
Yeah that sounds very uninspiring coming through a system like that.

The great thing about IR systems is that you can really tweak a sound and make it great, even if the amp isn't that great. The bad thing is you can tweak a great amp into submission and make its "greatness" kind of mediocre.

When I replied above I had second thoughts but on my side, on my basic music room speakers, the sound is not very inspiring and was now wondering about the deposit I made on the IIC+ RI. Thanks for your reply. Anyway, with my average skills, if I manage to make it sound like the IIC+ channel in my MarkV:25 I'll be more than happy.

Remember folks, Mesa did the EXACT same thing with the Mark VII. Total bullshit awful demos for the first few days, then people who actually know what they're doing released their demos after the first wave of terrible sounding horseshit demos.

Good point…

I’m just happy to see another tube amp being made! This is one of those ones that I never had the pleasure to try. Be looking forward to trying out when they come in!

Wow I didn’t know that. Sounds like it would be an easy mod to do to bring it back. Now you have me thinking.
I think channel 2 is like lead drive at 7 and pulling the pot increases it to 8. And channel 3 has lead drive at 9 and pulling the pot increases it to 10.

In the official Gibson/Mesa video the guy only turns on the Graphic EQ for like two of the audio clips. Everybody runs their EQ on almost all the time, especially on the gain channel. Gain at 5, Treble at 5, Mids at 7, Lead Drive at 6 with no GEQ? C'mon man! 🤦‍♂️
