    NPD: Wizard Gate Minder

That sounds very similar to what the two Zuuls I've had do. The Zuul also adds some detail and brightness, but it seems to be a combination of a slight increase in that area and a slight reduction in lows.

    NPD: Wizard Gate Minder

Is the brightness and detail you’re describing from an increase in top end or reduction of lows?

Pickup recommendation needed. Alternative to SH4 JB?

I wasn’t a huge Aldrich fan. Sometimes the “improved” JB types end up too soft or polite when they tame the upper mids too much.

    Your favourite post-90's metal

Oh man tons of good ones. You may have heard some of these, but here are a few off the top of my head: 1. Mastodon - Leviathan, Blood Mountain, Crack the Sky 2. Gojira - From Mars to Sirius, The Way of All Flesh, L'Enfant Sauvage 3. Opeth - Black Water Park, Ghost Reveries 4. The Mars Volta -...

Give us time. We’ll let you down again and get back to sucking. It’s a viscous cycle lol.

Yes, get acoustic treatment. How much and what will depend on your room and budge, but this can make a big difference. As for mics, get a 57. Then after that it would just depend on whatever else may want to record and your budget. If you want to do vocals, maybe an SM7 or a condenser of some...

Pickup recommendation needed. Alternative to SH4 JB?

The SH-6 wouldn’t be a bad option at all. It still has squish, but it’s tighter than the JB. It would be good if you aren’t wanting to stray way off course tonally from what you already have. I played some Fishman Fluence Classics recently, and those would easily do what you want. They are...

No wimps allowed, SEPULTURA Territory, 94’

Chaos A.D. is so killer. One of my all time favorite albums. I remember lots of drummers trying to get that Territory intro down back in the day too.

    What's the Scam Here?

When they say “kindly” I’m out lol. The check will initially show as cleared. Then after the fact your bank will figure out what’s up. By that time you’ve shipped because it “cleared”.

    HS pickup config appreciation thread!

I love the look of that first guitar! Is it a Luxxtone or something else?

    Uberschall: Favorite Speakers?

When I had my Uber I only got to play it through all v30s, all 75s, and v30/75 X-pattern like the Uber cab. I know you said you don’t like 75, but for me the v30/75 combo was by far the best. The v30 on its own was too pinched and the 75 too hollow, but together they were great.

    Mesa Rectifier early revisions (C,D)

Not to derail too much, but what did you prefer about the F over the Multiwatt? Did you also prefer the G over the Multiwatt?

    Top 5150 Tones!!

As far as I know, they've been on the 5150 III, in various forms, since Way of All Flesh. I love the guitar tone on that album. The guitars are also through a Peavey 5150 cab on that album. The EVH cab came after that. I've read lots of conflicting things regarding their earlier albums. That...

what pickup configuration do you like?

Humbucker in neck and bridge or single coil in neck and humbucker in bridge.

Experiment: very quiet amps vs LOUD amps (20, 50 and 100w)

I have also found there to be a “sweet” spot with the master volume as well. It’s always loud lol, but not necessarily as loud as the amp will go either. Even the modern amps using mostly preamp distortion for their tone seem to benefit from cooking a bit.

Fredman Technique comparo with 6 cabs.

I like the V30 best in your clip. Since you mention wanting to focus on clarity, one thing to try is micing the top speakers. Or if your favorite sounding speaker is on the bottom, turn the cab on its side so it's at the top. See if that helps reduce reflections and further clears things up for...

    Worst Pedal Ever Purchased?

I really couldn’t stand the Wampler Tumnus. In shootouts I’d heard with other klones it always faired well and often sounded better than many others. It didn’t stick around long once I got it, though. It had a loose and bloated low end and a harsh, unnatural sounding top end. Maybe the deluxe...

    Who's using a Klon-type for metal?

The OD820 has been one of my favorites for years. Like mentioned above, it gets compared to a Klon quite a bit. I compared it to a Klon KTR years ago. While I wouldn't say they were night and day different, I honestly didn't find them that similar either. At least not enough to warrant all the...
