I talked to John a few months back about a 4x12 and he gave me the same $400 shipping quote. It totally caught me off guard. He mentioned he over packs them, so it kicks them into a different size bracket. That’s why it’s so much more. You can go in Reverb right now and find a new Mesa oversized...
If you already have a Custom/'59 set there, you should at least give them a try. If you hate it, no loss other than the time to swap it. If you love it, you didn't spend any money on something else.
I'm new to the Custom, but I like it quite a bit so far. It's not super high output, but you...
Thanks man. Yeah, I can nerd out on boutique pickups with the best of them, but I’m definitely not mad at this SH-5 lol. I also have a JB in one of my other guitars and it sounds killer in there.
So I finally got around to trying the Seymour Duncan Custom SH-5. That's one I've always been curious about. I slapped it in my Hamer Korina Vector, and I have to say I'm really digging it in there. Duncan's description on the website is actually very accurate. This guitar has always been warm...
In front for me. Cabs are always directional to some degree, so there will always be some give and take.
My current room can get pretty boomy, so it skews how I dial in amps when dialing them in off to the side. When I get it to sound tight and focused off to the side, it will sound too direct...
Rust in Peace. It’s one of my all-time favorites, so this one isn’t even a close one for me. I like Pantera, but I much prefer some of there other albums to Cowboys.
What model is that? It kind of looks like the Dave Mustaine signature mode with that bridge, but I don’t see the signature on the headstock and the pickups are different. I can’t tell from the grain of the photos, but is that the sparkle finish or is it a solid color? Assuming that’s a neck through?
Yeah I think my best bet is grab something like a variac or brown box to knock the voltage down to that 115-117 range or so. That should get my plate and screen v around 500v or less w/out browning my sound out since that’s not what I’m trying to achieve. Then I can probably run these 500v...
Been reading up a little on variacs. Please tell me if I'm understanding this correctly:
Say my wall voltage is 122v and my plate voltage is reading 520v with EL34's biased up to 33.6 for 70% dissipation. If I reduce the wall voltage to 117v (roughly 4% less), will that also result in a 4%...
Yeah I don’t think I could bring myself to do that haha. Maybe I’ll just nab a variac to see how that does and some kt77’s since those seem to hold up and see what option is best.
When you drop yours to 90v at the variac what does you plate voltage end up at?
Any particular variac(s) I should...
It’s a Cali mod on a 70’s super lead (don’t have it front of me right now to check the serial number for the date). It’s sort of unique one though in that it was built with some older era parts that Marshall still had around like it’s lay down transformer.
I have it plugged into a voltage...
