I see your 2101; and I raise you my old 1991 GSP 21 Pro. The King. Lol. I will say my rhythm preset is better sounding than the AX8 that I had. Wish I still had the 21...lots of memories with that thing.
I hear ya bro'.

Regretted selling mine the day I parted with it.

So you’re saying that Fractal has offices around the globe? Isn’t it a small company based in USA?
Replace it with "the entire company," if that helps with the semantics.
Which reminds me, shout out to G55 Europe, great Fractal reps. Helped me many times with my Ultra and 2.

I have an Axe III and my Marshall. I stay away from Fractal land. A combination of the “sanctioned, condescending dickheads” whose bullshit is ignored by mods and the management (but the unwashed masses get infractions/bans for the same conduct) and the very creepy Stepford vibe that forum regularly puts off.

With that said. He who pays the bills makes the rules. And Cliff is paying those bills. I did not like the moderation or culture there so I left. He is under no obligation to make me happy.

Someone here said it doesn’t cost anything to run a forum. Sure, if you get like 5 visits a month a free site will get the job done. If you have a respectable level of traffic you have no idea how quickly it can add up. The fractal site is a pretty high traffic site, no free plan there.

Cloud hosting for my company runs around $40,000 per month on AWS.

My biggest gripe with the FAS forum are the not-really-mods-but-act-like-it guys, who are generally the same condescending pricks you spoke of, but there are a couple others who act as mods and slap hands as if they are indeed running the place. It’s great if people want to help, but making someone feel like an asshat for asking a question about a very in-depth device they’ve never used before is really shitty behavior.

Not sure why it’s not addressed because this is far from being the only place to bring it up and it’s been happening for years. It’s very off-putting for potential customers to see and especially off-putting for new owners. I know there’s been more than one that has said “Fuck this, I’m out” and sold their unit after.

And I’ve made a considerable amount of posts on my own forum about the Cliff worship, which I’m embarrassed-by-proxy about. Saying “Thank you” for an update, recognizing Cliff’s work is one thing, but man, a lot of that shit is so over the top it comes off as an 11-year old worshipping a boy band. I love Fractal shit, it’s easily my favorite non-guitar piece of gear and lets me pull off all the shit I’ve ever wanted to do with guitar tones, I’ve got a ton of respect for Cliff, but I’m not about to ask him to let me hold his balls for him in case they’re getting heavy.

No doubt someone will come along and say something dim witted to further back their bias, but check my other posts in this thread or just go to the FAS forum and type in Helix, Quad Cortex, ToneX, Nux, whatever, you’ll get plenty of discussion around all of them. Not sure why Cliff chose to close that particular thread after it had been going on for weeks, someone probably did somethin’ to piss him off. The only threads I see closed without fail are obvious troll threads, like when Donnie B eventually finds another fuckin’ Wifi address he can sign up with. Really, some of the posts in here are very, very Donnie-like.

He always comes back.

i dig my FAS Axe Fx III and am a member of the Fractal Forum.
IMHO the butt-hurt you speak of likely originates from brand loyalty and an attempt to keep stuff civil(?)...but i also see how it can be viewed as "over the top fan girly"... in my experience, the Fractal Forum is super helpful and share a sh*tton of stuff...but again everyone's opinions will vary...

This makes me want to go sign up over there just to ask dumb questions and fuck with those guys.

Hey I just got an Axe FX III but I can't find where to put the tubes so I can profile them. Can someone help me out?

Reminds me of members at TGP...

There's always someone who says something like "umm, pretty sure that goes against this forums rules..."

I own/use a Fractal Audio FX-8, am happy with the format & design of the FX-8, and have visited their forum a few times to get information. I have no issues with the forum or the other forum members on there. They don't have answers to some of my question, but I've learned a lot from my interactions on there. I have no issues with Cliff or the FA forum members. I'm not here to defend FA products, but can understand Cliff not wanting to discuss or support his competitor's products when he's running a business for that market. I like the fact that there is forum support for his gear and you can ask questions or find information on how to tweak your FA gear.

Cliff is right to be scared of this thing. It's really REALLY GOOD! Played for a couple of hours with it today and fuck ... you forget you're playing a $400 little pedal once you find the right profiles - which in my case are DI profiles -> Waza TAE -> v30s cab.

Can you explain how a modeling company would be scared of a profile player? You know they’re different things, right? 6 pages in and you seem to blow over that each time I’ve said it.

As long as what I'm playing through sounds and feels good I'm happy. I don't care if it's an amp, a pedal or a rack unit. FAS has/had the advantage of offering the best sounding unit and that's the main reason people buy it and not because it's a "modeller".
As a matter of fact I think people would welcome a device that just sounds good out of the box without having to tweak it too much.

I know there are people who will welcome a device that sounds good out of the box without much tweaking, but I think that’s the absolute LAST reason people buy a Fractal unit to begin with. Everyone who does their research ahead of time is going to read “they’re hard to program”, so I don’t think anyone buying a Fractal unit is doing so for ease of use. And I don’t believe Cliff is the least bit interested in dumbing it down. At most with the next unit they’ll add some better UI choices, but I really don’t believe Fractal will ever be a “you can buy it and use it at the gig that night it’s so easy to use” company.

You just made an example of why people prefer captures over models and you just found your preference. I’m not a fan of profiles because once you start tweaking them, you’re tweaking a one-size-fits-all tonestack and not the actual tonestack of the amp. I’m not alone with that and there are even die-hard Kemper fans that gripe about that. And searching for profiles feels like a major waste of time when I can make whatever I’m looking for with my AxeFX/FM9 in minutes. When I get the pedal I’ll surely check out some profiles from 3rd party guys and make my own, but I know I’ll never sit there and do a search for captures again. Fuck that. And some people have the same sentiments to tweaking a modeler; ”fuck that, I can just find a profile and not tweak anything”.

People get pissy when I phrase it this way, but I think Fractal is far better suited in the hands of a sound engineer or someone who strongly prefers having all the bells and whistles and profile/captures are more for people who like having the work done for them. It’s not a dis to anyone’s playing ability or experience, which is how they seem to take it every time I say that, it’s just their preference.

Bro if you think that digital devices didn’t do a big hole in the amp/cab sales you’re not paying attention. Same thing here. If it’s good people will buy it. If people will buy it and they’re satisfied they’ll not buy the other thing. You seem to have a history with people who don’t like FAS or something but that’s not the point here.
Imo, if Cliff is not at least annoyed by devices like this then he’s not paying attention either. He is, though, as far as I can tell.

You’ve got some fuckin’ wires crossed, man. I didn’t say anything about digital devices putting a dent in amp sales, nothing about having a problem with people who don’t like Fractal (but I said plenty about people who like Fractal too much, oddly enough). Communication ain’t your strong suit and you’ve got a really fuckin’ weird way of putting two and two together, as evident by this thread to begin with. I made the mistake of thinking you were capable of being spoken to like you had a fucking brain.
