Amp ho
The amazingly beautiful and talented Mr @Beyond Black let me borrow this Rev C last year and I just found some wankery I had recorded. Nothing scientific but maybe helpful? Both have el34s.
I agree, just a bit more aggression and clarity, it sounds great. I do wonder if you get an early F modded to rev c, or e to c, or d to c how close it is. Sounds like it here to me.Both sound good but I'd take the C. The pick attack is more pronounced on it.

Good shit as always Blake, thanks for doing this! So there’s actual comparison on the Internet that sounds great!
Yeah, I definitely think I’d go back and forth. Both such killer tones.I actually had an early chrome chassis triple that was modded to C by Mike. Did not have it at the same that I borrowed this C, but it was a killer amp. Has that grainy edge to it like the real C. Sometimes that would get old - find the F less ear fatiguing when that would happen

It’s interesting how many mesas vary even under same revisions. Seems like a lot of weird shit happened over the years, fake schematics and stuff going out.I had a Triple Rev F Mike B modded to C and when compared to my Rev C Dual, I actually preferred its red ch (and green ch much preferred), he got that part well, but I only use the orange ch (that's what recto's are about to me) and it wasn't close there. The Rev F/C mod sounded and felt stale/flat comparatively, just not as alive or aggressive, but was possibly the best Rev F I'd tried so far. Amazing amp as long as I didn't AB it with the C and D I had
Cliff from Fractal said that when they were reviewing Dual Recs for the Axe FX models they found that a lot of the early rectifiers had component differences. Part of the C mod is changing the pot values for the Presence, mids and gain...the gain goes to a 1K if I remember right. Other revisions are a smaller value.Cliff from Fractal said that when they were reviewing Dual Recs for the Axe FX models they found that a lot of the early rectifiers had component differences. From Cliff:
"Another thing is that if you put ANYTHING in the loop of a Recto it changes the tone significantly. Even just a short cable. All the models were made with the loop off. And another thing is that Rectos changed a lot. I have three of them and they all sound completely different. One of them has a different value Gain pot than the others. One of them has a different value bright cap than the one with the same Gain pot. Since the gain pot and bright cap interact this makes a HUGE difference. Experiment with the Bright Cap value."
The thing about that Rev C, it's not about the recorded or even live tone. It's about how it feels, more Mark II/III like under the fingers. Very addictive to play.i was expecting a much bigger difference going by what i read. the gain structures sound virtually the same to me which is what i listen for first, the C is slightly brighter and the F has a tad more low mids, but i mean moving the mic a cunt hair or blowing on the eq knobs of my console would make them even closer.
I thought you said that IIC was your favorite Mesa? Rev C is probably my number 1 Mesa too, but the iic+ and iic are very close after for meThat bastard was mine before Jeff (BB) got his gorilla mitts on it....my fav Mesa ever, over 4 C+s.
Killer amp, and worth every penny.
Darker for sure, but I definitely found the 1989 and 2014 SLO I had to be the smoother, less growly amps when AB'ed with the 2 Rev C's I had and other Recto's in general. That orange ch gets very growly. One of my favorites either wayThat Rev C sounds killer. Like a darker and smoother Soldano.

Well, yes but it was a brief 2 weeks before it shipped off to Mike for the +...so, I didn't have it long enough to countI thought you said that IIC was your favorite Mesa? Rev C is probably my number 1 Mesa too, but the iic+ and iic are very close after for me
@braintheory I have a G/C Triple that Mike did for me a while back.I had a Triple Rev F Mike B modded to C and when compared to my Rev C Dual, I actually preferred its red ch (and green ch much preferred), he got that part well, but I only use the orange ch (that's what recto's are about to me) and it wasn't close there.
