1992 Rev C vs 1993 Rev F - Both Duals

ha!! well shes not wrong, but its like when they dye their hair or change lipstick to a color that needs perfect lighting and the right angle to notice or we are in big trouble, we may not see it but if shes happy about it and makes her feel good i guess thats all that really matters, same with gear
💯 We have a mutual understanding of gear for me and fashion for her. Why does she need 20 pairs of black shoes? I don’t know. They all look 99% the same to me, but she sees a difference and it makes her happy, so have at it 😄

We’ve got another one boys :ROFLMAO:

I also recall Mike telling me that he only did the red channel when he C modded my G Triple. (which I highly regretted) Also, the clean channel got NUKED.
That’s true IME too, but imo that green mode also became a really good crunch channel on the triple f I had. It was a really awesome amp until AB’ed with the Rev D or C I got later on

The best observation I ever heard was from a non-musician: my wife.

After listening to me and friends talk about gear for years, swap gear, buy a million things, etc…one day she said:

“You know that you guys worry about things only a dog can hear, right?”

😄
I’ve had some non-musician friends that sometimes were more particular in some specific cases than I was when showing some of my gear, so you never know. I always believed that non-musicians are still hearing just as much and being just as affected the sound as we are. The real difference is they just aren’t as aware or able to explain well what they’re hearing, but I believe they absolutely hear it too and are moved by it when they like what they hear

Nice work man. The F just based on these clips, but in person both are great amps to play.

We put a borrowed C dual up against our G triple recently and had similar results (both 6L6). The C was lighter in the lows/low mids and a little brighter, so felt tighter and more present all round. But the G boosted is tough to beat, the Dirty Tree being the favourite around here. That's favorite for some of you fellas.

I’m always saying my triple G is the one amp I’d keep out of my bunch, I need to grab a dirty tree for it.

Nice comparison. I figured I would always choose the F, but I think I liked the C just as much if not more. Both sound great though.

What side of the dirty tree you prefer with rectos mate?

There’s a a big difference in playing at moderate volumes in Madison Square Basement by yourself vs opening an amp up at a venue with a full band or cranking in the studio, and I don’t think we differentiate enough when making these comparisons.

There’s a lot of “in the room” difference among amps when all you hear is you in your room. I think the “not much difference” applies to the other scenarios, and the moment you start using IRs, putting boosts in front, etc…it gets minimized even more.

I don’t think Meshuggah had any trouble getting Rev Gs to sound tight with a TC in front, nor do I think the revision they used on “Chaosphere” (for example) would have mattered at all in terms of tightness and tone, given the player, the studio setting, the boost, etc. That album would sound 99% the same regardless.
True!

But, this is why those of us that played out (35yrs; damn I'm old) will always, within the first day of ownership after checking tubes/bias etc play the amp wide open for a good amount of time, obviously to hear the amp at its best but also that would reveal any issue that it might have.

I'd even say I've played at home with MUCH more volume than 90% of the gigs I've had....10% of them were festivals/outdoor shows where I could let loose a little more with volume.
The C I had, 41, was barely recognizable to the G Duals I had. Clarity, feel, push..nearly everything I value was many notches above either of the early small logo G Duals I tried and returned. Most Rectos are also 'underpowered' say vs a 2203....they don't seem to truly get to 100w vs other amps...but that C, 41, had a high vol push that was killer and seemed more along the lines of a Triple Recto than a Dual.
Maybe that's not a common thing, but 41 definitely punched harder than those other Duals I had.

I think this should be auto-sticky'd on every single thread arguing the differences between different versions of same model amps in every single gear forum..
Where I stand is that the nuances rarely justify the cost difference. Given my personal £££ circumstances of course.
